In 2018, Russia is holding the 21st FIFA World Cup, and this voyage provides the perfect opportunity to combine your holiday - a cruise of the finest cities in the Baltic - with the chance to watch a match at St Petersburg’s new Zenit Stadium. After three nights in Stockholm and a day in Helsinki, we spend three days in magnificent St Petersburg, offering plenty of time to soak up both the electric atmosphere and the history, before our cruise continues to Tallinn, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Bruges.
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and your direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Stockholm. On arrival, we transfer to our hotel for two nights, the Clarion Hotel Amaranten (4T) and enjoy dinner this evening.
An introduction to the city is included this morning, on a sightseeing tour of one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, located in an archipelago of 30,000 islands. See the grand palaces and public buildings, cafés and Gamla Stan - the old town of cobblestone streets. This afternoon is at leisure to explore further.
We depart the hotel and transfer to embark Azamara Journey® (5T) and settle in before lunch. Our ship remains docked overnight, giving us further time to explore this lively, cosmopolitan city with an appealing mix of modern Scandinavian architecture and fairytale palaces. Perhaps visit Sodermalm, with welcoming restaurants and pubs, shops and boutiques. We sail after lunch on day 4.
Helsinki is a successful blend of traditional and quirky modern architecture and design, interwoven with the beauty of nature, and a few quirky Finnish touches. Stroll through the streets of Helsinki to discover opera houses and museums of art and heritage, numerous Art Nouveau and Nordic minimalism buildings, the Olympic stadium and the unique, natural Rock Church.
You have three days to enjoy in Russia, hosts of the 2018 World Cup. We dock in St Petersburg, where one of the last 16 matches will be held at the ultra-modern Zenit Stadium on day 7. If you’re not lucky enough to get a ticket, there is plenty to do in this fascinating city, where Russia's most opulent palaces, lush gardens, and ornate cathedrals represent two centuries of great power. Visit the esteemed Fabergé Museum in the gorgeous Neoclassical Shuvalov Palace, where over 4,000 works of decorative and other fine arts exhibit royal excess and a folk culture that Russia hasn’t seen since the days of the tsars. Wander its halls and salons to admire pieces crafted from silver, gold, porcelain and bronze, plus rich paintings and the collection of nine Imperial Easter eggs ordered by the last two tsars of the House of Romanov. On day 6, enjoy an included evening at the St Petersburg Philharmonia.
After centuries of foreign occupation, Estonians gathered en masse to join the non-violent Singing Revolution, achieving independence from Russia in 1991. Tallinn is far from the brutal grey associated with the Stalinist Empire, it is a classy, vibrant, modern and medieval fusion. Explore St Catherine's Passage, a quaint old lane, home to a collection of craft workshops; check out the secret 17th century tunnel system; and visit St Olav's Church, which was the world’s tallest building until 1625.
Enjoy a stroll through wonderful Copenhagen, with a list of attractions that include the unique Tivoli Gardens and famous statue of The Little Mermaid. Or experience the flavours of Copenhagen on an excursion led by the ship’s Executive Chef. Take a stroll through Market Halls, tasting the local delicacies on offer, stop in one of the oldest corners of Copenhagen for a piece of classic Danish cake and learn about the art of making beer in BrewPub, one of the city’s most popular breweries, before returning to the ship to enjoy our chef’s creations.
Spend your day relaxing on board as we sail along the world’s busiest artificial waterway. The Kiel Canal cuts through the Jutland Peninsula, alongside rural banks and gardens.
Amsterdam has more canals than Venice - a jigsaw puzzle of 90 islands joined by some 1,280 bridges. A cruise on the old waterways is a popular way to see the homes of Amsterdam’s famous former inhabitants - Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Anne Frank, who wrote her diary hidden in a canal-side house, or it is easy to walk around the small city centre to visit these historical buildings, the renowned flower market and more.
Wander a maze of winding lanes or drift along the canals of Bruges’ UNESCO-listed medieval core. Market Square sits at the centre of the ancient walled city of Bruges, lined with 17th century gabled houses and the Government Provincial, and dominated by the 14th century Belfort. You can climb the 350 steps up the belfry to enjoy panoramic views of the city. Or visit the Diamond Museum, the Lace Centre, Choco-Story or Frietmuseum, dedicated to Belgian Fries, to learn all about their origins and production.
We disembark Azamara Journey® after breakfast in Southampton, where you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
