See some of the world's most beautiful sailing ships
In May 2018, the city of Liverpool hosts the start of the Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta. Enjoy the festival atmosphere and maritime celebrations, culminating in the famous 'Parade of Sail.' With their graceful lines, huge masts and miles of rigging bedecked with colourful bunting, it's a truly breath-taking and unforgettable sight.
Leaving the local area this morning, we journey to Liverpool and our hotel, arriving in plenty of time to settle in and relax before dinner is served.
After breakfast we head into Liverpool which, with its waterfront boasting UNESCO World Heritage status, is a truly fitting location for the start of the Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta. This morning we include a short panoramic sightseeing tour to introduce you to this fabulous city and then the rest of the day is at leisure.
Head to Liverpool Waterfront with its network of historic docks and enjoy the fun-filled maritime festival including music, entertainment and firework displays along the iconic River Mersey in celebration of the visiting Tall Ships Fleet. You may even have the chance to board some of the beautiful ships to taste life on board! And don't miss the iconic Albert Dock with the largest collection of Grade I listed buildings in Britain, and Pier Head with its majestic Three Graces and the famous Ferry 'cross the Mersey.
Liverpool is also home to the largest collection of museums and galleries in the UK outside London - many of them free to enter - and a host of award-winning attractions. Perhaps visit the Merseyside Maritime Museum with its fascinating exhibition, Titanic and Liverpool: The Untold Story; the Walker Art Gallery and TATE Liverpool with their celebrated art collections; the World Museum, temporary home to China's Terracotta Warriors (payable locally); or The Beatles Story, dedicated to one of the 20th Century's most iconic bands.
Enjoy the evening's entertainment as well as an early evening meal (payable locally) before we return to our hotel late this evening.
After a leisurely breakfast we'll return to Liverpool this morning. The Parade of Sail takes place this afternoon with the whole fleet departing in convoy, bidding a grand farewell. It's a really memorable sight. Once the last ship has sailed, we depart for home, arriving back in the local area by mid-to-late evening depending on the traffic and distance to be travelled.
