Tour begins mid-afternoon at your London hotel. Board a genuine London icon: a vintage double-decker bus. Enjoy a welcome drink with your group before dining independently.
Take some time to explore the British Museum, the first public national museum in the world. With over 8 million pieces of artwork and artifacts, the institution documents the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present, and its holdings were sourced from around the world during Britain’s Empire days. Later, embark on a London pub food tour to savor the many flavors of traditional pub fare. Your afternoon and evening are free to explore London with your included Oyster Card, a public transportation pass. (B, L)
Visit the Tower of London and experience an early entry inside the walls to see the opening ceremony, where the main gates are unlocked by the Chief Yeoman Warder or one of his fellow warders, using the Queen’s key on a huge iron ring. Learn about the history of the Tower, which was founded in 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England, and view the Crown Jewels. Go to Windsor and enjoy lunch in the city before visiting Windsor Castle, one of the Queen’s official residences. You will have time to independently explore the largest inhabited castle in the world, including the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel. The evening is free to explore and dine on your own. (B, L)
Board the Eurostar train in London and travel through the tunnel deep under the English Channel on your way to Paris. Enjoy a panoramic drive down the monument-lined boulevards of this romantic city this afternoon. See the Eiffel Tower before boarding your early evening Seine River cruise, floating under lamp-lit bridges and past some of Paris’s most beloved sights along the banks. (B, D)
Visit the Louvre Museum, the world’s largest, housed in a Paris landmark built in the late 12th century as a fortress, then rebuilt as a grand palace in the 1600s. Home to great works of Greek and Roman antiquity, medieval masterpieces, and the Mona Lisa, you’ll discover some of these gems on a guided tour. Stop for a photo of the iconic Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame. While the roof was recently damaged by fire, the flying buttresses, rose windows and most of the intriguing gargoyles remained safe. Try a sweet French macaron before returning to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore and dine independently. (B)
Discover colorful Montmartre this morning on a walking tour of this busy cafe-filled hilltop where artists and writers have taken inspiration for more than a hundred years. Sample some typical avors of Paris here. At the summit of Montmartre, you’ll find the Basilica of the Sacré-Coeur, the second highest point in Paris. This Romano-Byzantine church in gleaming white offers a peaceful perch to observe the beauty of the city below. The afternoon is yours to explore independently. In the evening, savor a typical French farewell dinner with your group as you bid adieu to the city of lights. (B, D)
