Day 1

Day 1 embarkation in Ushuaia. Embark the ship in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world - located on the banks of the Beagle Channel. After exploring the vessel and a short safety briefing, sail through this scenic waterway for the rest of the evening.

Day 2

Days 2-3 at sea. During these two days the ship will sail across the infamous Drake Passage. While crossing the Antarctic Convergence Zone you may see a variety of impressive bird species, such as wandering albatross, grey headed albatross, black-browed albatross, light-mantled albatross, cape petrels, southern fulmars, Wilson’s storm petrels, blue petrels and Antarctic petrels. Near the South Shetland Islands, you should be able to spot your first icebergs of the voyage.

Day 3

Days 4-9 Antarctica. The ship will sail directly to 'High Antarctica', passing the Melchior Islands and the Schollaert Channel between Brabant and Anvers Island. Upon reaching the Neumayer Channel the captain will position the vessel in the best available location for the multi activity base camp. The sheltered waters around Wiencke Island will become a playground for a range of exciting excursions. In this alpine environment there are great opportunities to scout the region on foot, by zodiac, or in kayaks. Subject to conditions, walkers will find opportunities to use snowshoes on hikes near the shore lines and the mountaineers will be able to test themselves by climbing challenging hills and finding panoramic viewpoints further inland. The plan is to stay for two overnights at anchor in order to implement two camp nights and two full activity days. You may also visit the old British research station, (now a working museum and post office), at Port Lockroy on Goudier Island. Close to Port Lockroy a landing may be made on Jougla Point which offers colonies of gentoo penguins and blue-eyed shags. You should also look out for leopard seals, crabeater seals and whales here. In good conditions and time allowing, you will sail through the spectacular Lemaire Channel to Booth Island, Pléneau and Petermann Island, where you can find Adélie penguins and blue-eyed shags. In this area there are also good chances to encounter humpback and minke whales. The expedition staff will choose another anchor site which is suitable and close to the region which will host the next few days of activity. At Neko Harbour you may have the opportunity to set foot on the Antarctic continent in a magnificent landscape of glaciers and enjoy the scenery during Zodiac cruises, walks and kayak excursions. A small group of glacier walkers may have the opportunity to mount the ice and climb to higher elevations. You will spend the night at Neko or near Paradise Bay with a camp erected on shore. In the early morning, the ship will depart once more for the Drake Passage.

Day 4

Days 10–11 at sea. Heading north, the vessel is again likely to be followed by a variety of seabirds as you travel back to Argentina.

Day 5

Day 12 disembarkation in Ushuaia. Arrive back in Ushuaia in the morning for disembarkation after breakfast.
