Spain's third-highest mountain range, the Picos de Europa is a region of dramatic limestone peaks and lush valleys. Carpeted in beautiful wildflowers in spring, this area is also known as 'Green Spain'. Its terrain, tranquillity and inaccessibility make the Picos a walker's paradise. Chamois, Griffon vultures, Golden eagles and many other species are regularly seen, and, although more rarely spotted, bears, wolves and boars still survive in this incredible wilderness. We base ourselves at the friendly, family-run Hotel Torrecerredo, positioned in the heart of the region and offering breathtaking panoramas of the highest peaks from its welcoming bar and restaurant.   *Temporary changes due to COVID-security measures.* *Last updated: 22nd October 2020* At Exodus we acknowledge our responsibility to have the most up-to-date information on anything that will affect our customers on holiday, and to communicate this to our customers as effectively as possible. Food

All breakfasts, 5 picnic lunches and 6 dinners are included. The region has several delicious specialities for you to try while you are staying here. The area is famous for its gold-medal-winning blue cheese, Queso Cabrales, which is matured in some of the thousands of deep limestone caves that dot the hills. Lesser known, but equally appealing is the local lamb Cordero al la Menta and a wholesome bean stew, Fabada Asturiana. Fresh fish comes from the coast at Llanes and Ribadesella, half an hour's drive away. The local wine is very drinkable, though a glass of local cider can be more refreshing. *Breakfast:* Fruit juice, tea, freshly ground coffee, cereals, bread, cold meats, cheeses and a selection of local fruit (depending on season) offered buffet-style. There are also eggs cooked to order, sponge and Anis cake. *Lunch:* Generally includes a large bread roll, with a choice of fillings daily, chocolates and fresh fruit. *Dinner:* Homemade four-course meal usually consists of soup or salad for the first course, a choice of 3 main courses, with meat, fish, or vegetarian, followed by a homemade dessert. *Wine:* To accompany the evening meal, the hotel has a reasonably comprehensive wine list available. Over the years, the hotel has developed tasty vegetarian alternatives. Please let us know in advance if you are vegetarian or have any other special dietary requirements.

The trip starts in Arenas de Cabrales this afternoon. Those on the group flights will be met at Bilbao Airport and transferred to our hotel, which has views up to the highest peak in the national park. **

Meals: dinner

The walk begins directly from our hotel. After leaving the village, a path leads us up to the pastures of Vanu with the most famous peaks of Picos de Europa visible on sunny days. We continue onwards where the scenery changes and we are able to view across the main valley of Cabrales. During Spring time, it is possible to see a large variety of flowers. Looking skywards it is also possible to spot some vultures soaring above. For lunch we will approach the village of Inguanzo before completing the final part of the walk. This section of the walk is more undulating and provides us with fresh views and a comfortable last mile takes us back to Arenas de Cabrales. Most of this first day’s walk follows wide easy tracks for warming up with some steep ascents. There is only a short section of downhill walking during today's walk. Walking approx. 16km/ 10 miles; duration 7 hours; ascent +730m; descent -730m. Highest point (Los Fresnos col): 720m.

Meals: breakfast,lunch,dinner

A short transfer takes us to the village of Canales. The first part of the day follows farm tracks before a short climb up to the 'Collado de los Buitres'. If you are lucky you may see Griffon vultures soaring above. We then follow open terrain, slowly ascending to the base of the Pandescura peak. A simple ascent to the top will lead us to an ideal lunch spot with superb views of the Western massif peaks. We then descend through green hills to the village of Bovia. Walking approx. 14km/ 9 miles; duration 6 hours; ascent +550m; descent -580m. Highest point (Pandescura peak): 1000m.

Meals: breakfast,lunch,dinner

The classic Cares Gorge has been described as the jewel in the crown of Spanish hiking. For 12 km, the engineered path has been blasted into the rock face. Originally built in the 1940s as part of a hydroelectric scheme, it is now one of the most popular walks in Spain. In places, the surrounding peaks rise over two thousands metres above the path and if we're lucky, we may catch a glimpse of the rare and beautiful wall creeper bird. The path eventually emerges in the village of Cain, where we have lunch before our return along the same path to Puente Poncebos. Transport will be waiting here to take us to back to our hotel in Arenas. The walk is relatively flat with a gradual ascent of just 350m from Puente Poncebos to Cain. Walking approx. 24km/ 15 miles; duration 7 hours; ascent +550m; descent -550m. Highest point (Los Collaos): 510m

Meals: breakfast,lunch,dinner

Today is free for you to visit the coast or try a spot of caving, self-guided canoeing or canyoning. Our local staff will be able to help organise any of these activities.

Meals: breakfast,

Starting close to the village of Tieve, we walk up into the Main range and summit Peña Main, one of the classic viewpoint in the Picos. We walk to Pandebano Col and then begin our descent. Walking approx. 11km/ 7 miles; duration 7 hours; ascent +1050m; descent -740m. Highest point (Cabeza La Mesa): 1612m

Meals: breakfast,lunch,dinner

At 2000m, the twin summits of Mancondiu are the highest point we reach during the week. Most of the walking apart from the last 200m is on disused mining tracks. The top offers fantastic views of the Central and Eastern Massifs and is a fantastic end to a diverse week of walking. Walking approx. 11km/ 7 miles ; duration 5 hours; ascent +735m; descent -735m. Highest point: Macondiu peak 2000m

Meals: breakfast,lunch,dinner

The trip ends in Arenas de Cabrales this morning. **

4* Hiking the Picos de Europa - a great week!
A fabulous trip - beautiful scenery, great hikes, delicious food and good accommodation. What really made this trip for me - was the super fabulous hiking guide - Alvaro! He was awesome. The team at the hotel were pretty great too.

5* Excellent walks in a stunning location!
The Picos de Europa is an area of outstanding scenery and has well defined walking paths. Every walk during the holiday had it's own distinct 'feel' and all were excellent! The accommodation was relaxed, staff were friendly and the food was very good. Our group got on very well with each other so everything combined to make this an excellent holiday!

5* Wonderful week in the Picos
I wasn't sure what to expect given that this was my first solo trip and the first time with Exodus. I shouldn't have worried though, it was a most excellent walking holiday. The scenery was stunning, the hotel lovely, the walking varied, the wildlife and flora beautiful, the fellow walkers splendid company and the tour guide just perfect (see below).

5* An enjoyable week - recommended
It's almost superfluous to repeat what everyone else says - that the hotel is relaxed, informal and friendly and the food is excellent. The walking programme is fine-tuned by the leader on a daily basis to take account of the weather and the abilities of the party.

5* Walking the Picos de Europa
The picos de Europa are really beautiful. We had a fabulous week of weather at the end of September and got to enjoy them at their best! The scenery was magical – I kept thinking I must be on a Hollywood set, it just seemed surreal! We saw lots of animals – many birds of prey; chamois; a wallcreeper; lizards; goats; rats! Some people saw a salamander one day although sadly I missed that! Each walk was in a different place – we did one in each of the central, eastern and western massifs as well as the cares gorge and Juan Robre. Our guide for the week, Alvaro, was excellent. The hotel was very relaxed and it was handy to be in a little village.

What a fantastic trip, loved it. Probably the best group I've ever walked with, stunning location and not what you would normally associate with Spain. The Hotel Torrecerrado was brilliant, lovely family atmosphere, Jim and the gang were excellent and couldn't do enough for us.The food was sensational, high end restaurant quality, innovative and delicious.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to others.

5* Walking in Picos de Europa (challenging week)
This was an amazing week of walking with stunning views which just got better and better as the week went on. There was a bit of rain at the start of the week but this also improved as the week went on and the last 3 days were spent in the glorious october sunshine. You really felt on top of the world at times and apart from the Cares Gorge we barely saw another soul on the walks so felt like we had the whole Picos to ourselves.Jim and Pilar run a great hotel and really make you feel at home. The rest of the staff are great too.Jim was great with giving everyone all the info for options on the free day and was happy to do anything to make sure everyone could do what they wanted even if only one person wanted to do a particular thing.Really enjoyed the hotel food, some of the best I've had on an Exodus trip which is no mean feat.A fantastic part of the world of which i knew little about and would love to go back to at some point.

5* Walking the Picos de Europa - a very special part of Spain
We all think that Spain is an arid country with every town heaving with tourists, music blaring from every club, drunks roaming the street !!Well think again. The Picos de Europa is the northern mountain range in Spain, with lush flora; fantastic gorge and mountain views; small villages and hamlet, and a so very different part of Spain. We spent the last week of June on this trip and enjoyed every minute. The hotel may only be 1 star, but is comfortable, has fantastic buffet breakfasts (cereal, fruits, drinks, meats, cheese, bread, etc), ample packed lunches (with choices of baguette filling, chocolate and muesli bars), and sublime 4 course evening meals (with 3 choices of main course). The tour leader Nacho (Ignachio) was extremely proficient and friendly, ready with useful information and, very much, part of the group. The variety of landscape, local flora, long gorges, wonderful mountain peaks lead to some great experiences and unbelievably beautiful views. One of our best Exodus trips so far, and so close to the UK

5* A beautiful place!
This was a lovely trip! The 'Picos De Europa' area in northern Spain is vast but little known and there are very few tourists compared with elsewhere in Spain. It is surprisingly 'Alpine' in feel, with beautiful with high, pointed mountains, interspersed with some lovely, flowery meadows. Goats, wild horses and light-brown cows with big bells wander around everywhere. We very much enjoyed walking in this area, with our friendly, competent leader, Nacho. The lovely, family-run hotel is simple but comfortable and very friendly - nothing is too much trouble. The home-cooked food - a choice of three main courses daily - is surprisingly good and the lunch 'rolls' were MASSIVE with lots of filling! Any fairly fit walker would love this trip and I would highly recommend it.

5* Fantastic experience!
The Picos de Europa is a great National Park to experience wonderful mountain ranges at a moderate hiking grade. We were very fortunate to have an excellent tour guide in Nacho who really looked after us and filled the days with great facts on the local area and wildlife. The walking group was a wonderful mix of ages and backgrounds and we bonded from Day 1.The hotel accommodation was good but I have to highlight the excellent customer service from Jim/Pillar and their team. The food each night was simply fantastic...4 courses which would grace any London establishment. Also, a great bar to socialise in after the walks! Thanks everyone!

5* Wonderful holiday
The Picos are a beautiful part of Spain, lush and green with limestone peaks and very quiet. Apart from on the gorge walk we saw very few people when we were walking. The hotel owners describe the hotel as a one star hotel with five star views and the views certainly are fabulous but I wouldn’t describe the hotel as one star! More as simple, homely and friendly! The food at the hotel was very good. The hotel owners, Jim and Pilar, are very good chefs and spent a great deal of time each day to produce a really tasty 4 course dinner for us which was very welcome at the end of each day. We had a lovely group and a great guide and I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes walking in beautiful scenery.

5* A Beautiful and Undiscovered Part of Spain and Very Challenging Walking
We purposely chose the challenging week for this trip as they always tend to offer fuller days out and at higher altitudes. We have never walked or considered this area of Spain prior to this trip but certainly were impressed by the area, accommodation, food and the walking that was offered. This trip certainly did ‘what it said on the can’! From the moment we arrived in Bilbao and were met by our guide Álvaro Saiz, the trip ran like clockwork.Despite the weather on arrival being quite unseasonable and looking like it may affect the higher level walking, Alvaro adjusted the days to suit and still gave us challenging walks each day that were full-on, demanding and rewarding. By the end of the week the weather had cleared showing the Picos de Europa in its full and stunning glory. The hotel and friendliness of the owners and staff made it very homely and welcoming. The views from the hotel were stunning and its close proximity to the very pleasant town was excellent. All the food offered at the hotel was first class and generous, including the packed lunches. This trip was the full package and the Picos, scenery, guide, daily transport, hotel and food were faultless. We were very sad to leave and hope to return again.

5* I would do it all again...
This holiday was so much more than I expected. More challenging, more fun, more mountainous! I don't know why but I didn't equate a mountain region with so much ascending. I am a regular hiker and was surprised to find that I could walk for up to two hours uphill and still maintain a conversation. Alvaro the guide was inspiring and motivational, and the group were encouraging and fun to be with. We really bonded over the tough uphills and the shared experiences of the magnificent scenery. I was sad to leave the group at the airport and I think part of me is still in the mountains.

5* An Amazing Week Walking in the Picos de Europa
We spent an amazing week in the Picos de Europa from 25th May to 1st June 2019 and both enjoyed it immensely. Even though our fitness levels were different, we were both able to benefit from the varied levels of the walks, some of which had optional climbs at a more challenging level. The scenery was stunning and was further enhanced by our leader Ignacio/Nacho's local knowledge and ability to judge the walk to suit the weather. This ensured we gained the most benefit from the scenery as some walks would have otherwise been spoiled by the mist due to their altitude. We enjoyed the many sightings of vultures, eagles, Asturian Mountain Cattle, goats, sheep, horses and chamois. The family run hotel Torrecerredo was very much understated as the food and service were exceptional with a very homely atmosphere. It is a credit to Jim and Pilar for such a well run hotel. We were presented every evening with a four course evening meal of Michelin Star quality. Picnic lunches were individually prepared to order and wrapped for us ready to take on our walk. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel also offers a laundry service which most of the group availed of. We were very fortunate to be part of a fantastic group of 16 people who got on extremely well together and encouraged and supported each other throughout the week. The hotel bar was great to relax in after a day's walking with a bottle of local cider, beer or gin and tonic.

This is a wonderful trip with some excellent and varied walks. The hotel where we stayed was run by Jim and Pilar and you really feel you are part of the family. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The food is wonderful. We are vegetarian, which usually means that you are a bit of an after thought. Not here, the kitchen tries to cater for every diet and we had some lovely dishes and great (and generous) packed lunches. The weather was a bit iffy when we were there, but the tour leader Alvaro has years of experience and knows the area backwards, so he would know what the best walks were for the cloudier or dodgier days. The walking was very varied and the scenery is spectacular. When we were there we saw lots of birds and the wild flowers were wonderful. Also we had an especially nice group which added greatly to the enjoyment of the week.

Wonderful guide, fellow walkers, hotel etc. It was a really relaxing way to holiday as there was zero stress (nothing to organise) but physical challenge each day. From pastures full of flowers (at this time of year anyway), to high mountains with snow, to spectacular gorges, it's hard to overstate how beautiful this area is. The guide, Alvaro, is outstanding - knowledgeable about seemingly every subject to do with the area (flowers, birds, history etc), fun, caring, well-organised and sociable. The hotel is also lovely and the food is very good.

5* Go on this trip!!
I was recommended this trip several years ago, and it did not disappoint! Everything about this holiday was excellent - our guide, Alvaro-top marks, the hotel, comfortable and welcoming with excellent food and a good wine list, and amazing walks with beautiful scenery.I found some of the days quite tough, but the walking was at a good pace and the encouragement kept me going allowing me to complete all walks. This is a beautiful part of Spain and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

5* Picos de Europe
Spectacular mountain walking, sometimes through meadows, woods and on rough tracks. The walking got progressively harder each day, it was challenging without being difficult. The pace was well judged, those who wanted to walk a bit faster were encouraged to go on ahead with directions of where to wait for the rest of the group. Alvaro our guide was knowledgeable and caring, he made the holiday extremely enjoyable. The weather (in September 2014) was perfect. Hotel Torrecerredos was an excellent location, very close to the town. Jim's cooking was excellent with good vegetarian options. Really could not fault this holiday in any way.

5* A hidden gem
These mountains are not well known outside Spain but are well worth a visit. Verdant valleys of trees and meadows give way to dramatic and soaring limestone peaks. There are lots of walks and the views are always worth the effort. Our days were topped off with fabulous dinners created by Jim and his team at the hotel - four courses each night! The hotel was welcoming and quiet but only a few minutes' walk from the town. There was an amazing view from the bar patio of the distant mountains which I never tired of looking at.

5* Picos revisited
This was our second trip to the Picos de Europa as we enjoyed it so much last time in 2014. It didn't disappoint. The walking is moderate so those with basic fitness will have no problems, you don't return to the hotel exhausted, there is sufficient time to relax with a drink or even wander into the town for a browse before the group dinner. The food in the hotel is really good and the owners, Jim and Pilar are hands on, cooking the food and helping with transportation and are a delight to chat with.

Our first visit to this area; wonderful varied walks ending in two fairly hard days which very well worth the effort.Limestone peaks, lush meadows, autumn colours in all the different trees and all this mostly to ourselves.First two days misty, warm and windy so programme adjusted to suit that, otherwise sunny and warm but cool at night.

5* Varied walking in The Picosd'Europa
It was probably the most challenging trip that my wife have done together and despite being in our 70's we felt equal to challenges with Alvarro's encouraging approach. The walking varied from forest trails to gradual ascents with some sce=rambling on the penultimate day.The Cliff walk on the free day to Llanes was delightful and a contract with the mountains. The Carres gorge was very special and we were fortunate to be there at a cool time of year and with few other walkers,We have been on half a dozen or so trips with Exodus and this was up there with the very best

5* Walking the Picos de Europa - Challenging week
This was my first walking holiday and first trip with Exodus. I would highly recommend it to anyone reasonably fit (Challenging week). Accommodation was great and food amazing - lots of options for veggies and good selection at breakfast. All the staff in the hotel are very helpful - for example the owner, Jim, went out of his way to drop two of us in central Bilbao on the day of the return flight, instead of having to kill time at the airport. Other trip members were very sociable and friendly and made it an incredible week. Our guide, Alvaro, was superb - lots of interesting local knowledge about the wildlife and region. He also ensured that the walks avoided crowded times/cloud. The Picos itself is a beautiful region to visit. Day off allowed a trip to the coast, Llanes, which has good restaurants and lovely beach.

5* Mountains, woodland, meadows
I was surprised how green "Green Spain" is. On landing I thought it looked more like Austria, and this resemblance persisted. It had been rainy before we went and the woodland paths were quite muddy. There are brown cows with cow bells (very docile) and a lot of goats (very friendly). Our week was hot and humid so on the last day we set off at 8am instead of the normal 9am.The area is very peaceful, but there are few way-marked trails so it was useful to have a guide. On the free day we chose to go to the coast. The beach at Poo (yes it is called Poo) is stunning - lovely soft golden sand and restaurants overlooking the beach. We were less impressed with Llanes - it is OK and the icecreams from the van the group are picked up at are superb (and huge! - save room for one) but given how nice the beach at Poo is we would probably spend more time there if it is a nice day.The hotel has a nice garden to sit out in with stunning views of the mountains (sometimes hidden in mist, sometimes clear against blue sky). The hotel staff are very organised. The bar is a nice place to hang out after walks or before dinner. The food is very tasty. There is a small appetiser, a soup, a main and a pudding. Our only thought to improve this would be more vegetables with some of the main courses (e.g. the pork is the best ever - it is so tender - but it was served up with just one carrot along with Dauphinoise potatoes). Cutting out the appetisers would save a lot of work serving and washing up for what is a small thing. The beef curry bomb was very popular with the group - highly recommended! The prawn curry was a bit too fancy with a couple of whole prawns and my husband would have preferred a proper big bowl of prawn curry and rice rather than have to mess about dissecting his dinner. The hake with little clams on the last day was excellent. Every meal was very tasty and well cooked.

5* Perfect holiday
This was a great week from start to finish. Each walk was different and always through a stunning landscape and the walks were challenging enough to feel a sense of achievement at the end of the day. Jim and Pilar and the rest of the team at the hotel were great; welcoming, friendly and experts about the local area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. It was the best holiday I've been on in ages.

5* Walking in Picos de Europa
I have just returned from an August trip walking in the Picos de Europa; I feel as if I have been on the top of the world! I very rarely give anything more than four stars but this trip really was five star from beginning to end. I had several reservations whether I could manage the ascents, as coming from the Chilterns I am used to a few hills, not steep mountains. But our guide, Alvaro, was outstanding, and really sensitive to the needs of the whole group - and I made it to the top every time! Sometimes he led from the front and sometimes, where appropriate, he let the faster walkers go at their own pace and ran between the front and the back of the group to make sure we were all ok and felt supported...and all this whilst carrying up to 10 litres of water in case we ran out. His passion and enthusiasm for the area were infectious and it really is a spectacular area to walk in.The food at the hotel was excellent, especially the evening meal which was a four course affair, beautifully served and with a good range of choice for the mains. The hotel owners Jim and Pilar and their staff are all very friendly. We were blessed with great weather which certainly helped and my fellow walkers were a great bunch. As always with Exodus, single travellers should have no reservations about coming on their own.

4* Cow bells and Cuisine......
This would be a 5* PLUS trip for me, but it has to be mentioned that it does lose a star because the cow bells on the very beautiful but very close cows in the adjacent field kept us all awake half or most of the night which is not helpful when you are mountaineering the following day! It seems Jim the hotel owner can do nothing as its not his field.Having said that the hotel was great, all staff were happy, helpful and always willing to please. The food was really amazing again 5* plus which you don't expect on a walking trip. It was truly one of the highlights. So now what to choose? the wonderful group of people that came together in an inspiring way, all having fun, helping each other, laughing a lot and enjoying every minute of our trip. We were a true team. So what's left? oh yes our wonderful, kind, caring fun leader Ignacio or Nacho to us. He is great and truly looked after us all and was enthusiastic and knowledgeable too. Finally of course the walking! Well, what a place. Glorious scenery, magical walks, varied and interesting. Some were a bit tough for me especially when hot but that was my age and ability rather than the level. I've been on many Exodus trips this one is right up there as a great one.

Exodus for me works on word-of-mouth and recommendations. So mine is, go!It's a fabulous location with moderate-to-challenging walking, spring flora and fauna fascinating, and so unexpected: like a slice of Switzerland. Our guide, Alvaro, is one of the best - Exodus I'm sure should be very sorry to lose him - but there is such a commitment to quality from the hotel that the team will always be a good one.Excellent food, comfortable beds, lashings of hot water... a very homely home base.

5* Picos de Europs - Stunning Scenery
This was a week in the hills that I will never forget! The scenery was absolutely stunning - every day different - and we got marvellous views on all the walks, which were all very enjoyable. Our hotel was a great base - it is billed as the one star hotel with five star views, but I would add to that and say that it also provides five star food and five star hospitality. In addition, the town of Arenas de Cabrales is very nice to wander round, not too big but still a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. All in all, a great experience and one I would consider repeating in a few years time (I have never had a bad Exodus holiday but this one was particularly enjoyable).

5* A fantastic week in the mountains
I went on the Grade 5 (Challenging) week in early September. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding week in all respects - the hotel, the food, the scenery, and the superb guide Alvaro. Of the 3 Exodus trips I've been on, this was my favourite, for 2 main reasons. 1 - Jim and Pilar who run the Hotel Torrecerredo go out of their way to make you feel at home, as do the other staff their. They explicitly said we should treat the hotel as our home for the week and their warmth and friendliness, as well as their relaxed attitude to guests coming and going, popping into the kitchen to ask something, relaxing on the terrace, or making themselves tea when they wanted it, really did make it feel like home. Reason 2 is the guide Alvaro, who for me was the ideal group leader.

5* Truly a wonderful adventure
Everything about this trip went beyond my expectations. Our thoughtful and knowledgeable guide Nacho was a delight! The other members of my group (there were 15 of us) were lots of fun and we felt like family by the last day. The scenery was spectacular and the hikes were challenging but not over the top. I cannot say enough positive things about this trip except it was rather hot and humid while we were there and ceiling fans in the rooms would have been a welcome addition. The hotel overall was comfortable, convenient location and the meals were incredible! Don’t hesitate to book this trip if you want to see Spain off the beaten path.

5* Picos de Europa
This is an excellent trip for the moderate walker. It combines fantastic scenery in which to hike, a well informed, diligent and capable tour leader, excellent rural village accommodation with superb food and incredible local hospitality. The Picos de Europa is a beautiful region of Spain and rivals the better known ranges in Europe for scenery and grandeur. It is well worth the visit. The Hotel Torrecerredos is a perfect base from which to enjoy the daily hikes. It provides suitable rural hotel style accommodation but it also provides superb food, wine and hospitality. The local value for money was phenomenal, the last night night team meal in the Cafe Restaurant Cares was just 15 Euros for three huge courses with wine included.

4* Iain, Glasgow
I went on the Picos de Europa trip during the first week of June 2014. On day 1 we were driven to the hotel and pretty much left to our own devices. Then over the next 6 days we had 5 days of trekking with 1 day off in-between for R&R. The walking was challenging but there were no technical difficulties and everyone completed the walks. The scenery every was stunning and we were pretty lucky with the weather. This is apparently the wettest bit of Spain and it did rain on 2 of the 8 days but on every other day it was warm and sunny with excellent visibility. Temperatures generally low 20s C. Warm but not uncomfortable. The hotel is pleasant with very friendly staff and the food is excellent. The hotel bar is good value,, however but there are a number of good bars and restaurants (and touristy shops) in the town of Arenas.

A moderate - graded walking experience which gave time to take a relaxed pace, if needed. We were lucky to gel immediately as a group who adored the outdoors and the views with just enough physical exertion, while all had he ablility to push on if time was short. The weather is very variable, from sticky to thundery to burning hot to fresh and sunny. Every valley may have a different weather experience, therefore every day was a surprise.Evenings at the hotel were relaxed with great cooking, a full bar and extremely friendly hosts.

4* Picos de Europa Hiking holiday
This was a lovely holiday- an excellent, short escape to a part of Spain that I was curious about. Cantabria and Asturia- the Spanish regions where the Picos are located- were beautiful and really untouristy, even in the middle of August. We also lucked into great weather; it was largely sunny, but not too hot (mid-high 20s celsius, but with a breeze). The hotel is cozy and beautifully located; the owners, Jim and Pilar, were very welcoming and helpful. It's small but generally has everything you need, including a bar and patio area, and this was important because after a long day's walking we didn't often have the energy to stray far. The hikes are varied and seemed an appropriate length for a moderate level holiday. The break day was much appreciated to allow us a change of activity.

The tour is brilliant, book it.The hotel is lovely, all the staff were very helpful and owners not only speak English but were Leaders themselves so they know all about the walks and the area. The hotel food was excellent and there is a drying room, and washing line, so you can wash/dry clothes and boots. My room had a bath and a shower, heaven after a long days walk. Magnificent views from the South facing pretty garden terrace ( and the bar and restaurant) and drinks very reasonably priced.Guide , excellent, knew the mountains very well, even when covered with snow! Very reassuring.Long walks but very quiet, we hardly saw anyone each day, which was lovely (apart from Carres Gorge - take a hat as no shade) we were well off the main “highway” fantastic views every step. And no hidden costs as a full breakfast, packed lunch provided and a 3 course evening meal.

5* Beautiful and peaceful Picos
Spent a glorious week walking the unspoilt, peaceful and beautiful Picos. The weather was perfect for walking with only 1 day of light drizzle, breaking the otherwise dry and sunny week. We did a mixture of walks ranging from summiting twice at just over 2000 metres above the tree line through to a coastal walk to Llanes. Alfonso our guide was a true man of the mountains, born in the Region and with a real love and passion for the Picos as well as having a really calm and peaceful persona. The hospitality and home cooking at the hotel was excellent throughout the week and each day you can admire the glorious views of the Picos over breakfast and dinner, cloud cover permitting. I felt throughout the week that I was off the beaten track as the area is so large and un-touristy that on most days you don’t come across many other walkers, with the exception of the Cares gorge which was busier, but not in an unpleasant way. I loved the whole week.
