Day 1: UK/Ireland - Night on board

Arrive at your UK/Ireland airport, ready for a flight to Santa Cruz, in the tropical lowlands of central Bolivia. Night on board.*

Day 2: Santa Cruz

Touch down in beautiful Santa Cruz and transfer to the hotel. Get settled and enjoy the day at your leisure. Explore the historic centre, founded by the Spanish in the 1500s. Santa Cruz is home to a plethora of cultural institutions, museums and historic buildings. We recommend an optional city tour or an excursion to the ruins of Samaipata to discover some of the regions most iconic historical sights.* Overnight stay in Santa Cruz.

* Optional Santa Cruz City Tour: Enjoy a 3-hour walking tour of the circular streets of Santa Cruz, which are all organised in circles around the city centre. Pass by modern residential areas, explore the historic centre and its craft stores before discovering Plaza Principal 24 de Septiembre, home to the cathedral of San Lorenzo, which is over 400 years old. Price per person: £53.

* Optional Full-Day Ruins of Samaipata Excursion: Head to Samaipata to visit the ruins of El Fuerte, the largest example of pre-Hispanic rock architecture in South America. Explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site and learn more about its significance at the local museum. Also, see the breathtaking Las Cuevas Waterfalls. Price per person: £185.

Day 3: Santa Cruz - Sucre

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, transfer to the airport for a short flight to Sucre, the capital of Bolivia, situated in the Andes and known for its charming colonial architecture. Once settled at the hotel, set off on a half-day city tour to discover the city's sights and monuments. Visit the House of Freedom, where Bolivia's independence was sealed in 1825, and walk through Bolivar Park. Discover Recoleta Church and the fascinating ASUR Museum of Indigenous Textiles, which showcases the local talent of Bolivia's indigenous communities. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure. Overnight stay in Sucre.

Day 4: Sucre - Potosi - Uyuni

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, take a shared bus service to the mining town of Potosi, famous for its Silver Mine, found by Spanish Conquistadors in 1545, and its charming narrow colonial streets. The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenic journey of between 3 and 4 hours passes through the Pilcomayo River and across the Mendez Bridge. On arrival in Potosi, enjoy a half-day city tour, where you'll be whisked back in time as you stroll through the town's traditional colonial streets and artisan market. See the National Mint of Bolivia, the Church of San Francisco and the baroque-mestizo stone carvings of San Lorenzo Church. After the tour, catch a shared bus service to Uyuni, passing by fantastic Bolivian scenery along the way. After a journey of around 4-hours, arrive in Uyuni, the gateway to the world's largest salt mines. Enjoy a relaxing evening at your leisure. Overnight stay in Uyuni.

Day 5: Uyuni

Set yourself up for an action-packed day with breakfast at the hotel. Today, enjoy a full-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flats, an unmissable natural landscape. On the way, stop at the Train Cemetery, where the remains of 20th-century steam trains lay abandoned. Visit Colchani to observe the local salt extraction methods and the oasis of Incahuasi Island, filled with tall cactus plants. Continue the adventure at the pre-Columbian Pucara de Ayque Fort, in the foothills of the Thunupa volcano before enjoying some time on the dazzling salt flats, admiring the reflections or the sea of white salt, depending on the time of year you visit. Picnic lunch in the middle of the salt flat. Return to the hotel and overnight stay in Uyuni.

Day 6: Uyuni - La Paz

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, transfer to the airport for a flight back to La Paz. Arrive in La Paz and once settled at the hotel, set off on a half-day walking tour of the city. A traditional 'lustra-guide' introduces you to the highlights of the city as you travel by cable-car through the most vibrant neighbourhoods. Visit the main cemetery, and explore the Fish Street, Flower and Uruguay Markets. Soak up the traditional Andean atmosphere of the Cholitas Market, a great place to pick up colourful textiles. End the tour on the streets of Linares and Sagarnaga, home to the famous 'Witch Markets', for a glimpse into the alternative cultures of Bolivia. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure to get to know La Paz. Overnight stay in La Paz.

Day 7: La Paz - Copacabana - Isla del Sol (Lake Titicaca)

Breakfast at the hotel. Set off on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure today as you head for the shores of Lake Titicaca. Take a shared bus service from La Paz to Copacabana, on the shores of the iconic lake, which Bolivia shares with Peru. In Copacabana, explore the local church before taking a 1-hour boat trip to Isla del Sol, one of the larger islands on Lake Titicaca. Stop at Huancani for a traditional altiplano lunch, before continuing to Pilkokaina to visit the ancient ruins of an Inca temple. Continue on foot to the eco-lodge where you can enjoy the remainder of the day relaxing and admiring the views of the lake. Dinner and overnight stay on Isla del Sol.

Location: La Paz - Copacabana - Isla del Sol (Lake Titicaca)

Day 8: Isla del Sol - Isla de la Luna - Copacabana - La Paz

Awake early to watch the sunrise over Lake Titicaca, a mesmerising sight. After breakfast at the lodge, visit the Inca site of Yumani and the Fountain of Eternal Youth. Depart by boat to the smaller island of Isla de la Luna where the Inca temple of Inak Uyu awaits your discovery. Stop for lunch before returning to the shores of Copacabana by boat to catch the shared bus service back to bustling La Paz. Enjoy an evening at your leisure, exploring the city's nightlife or its lively cafes and bars. Overnight stay in La Paz.

Day 9: La Paz - Santa Cruz

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave the Andean highlands behind today as you transfer to the airport to catch a flight to Santa Cruz, in the tropical lowlands east of the Andes. Arrive in Santa Cruz and transfer to the hotel. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure to explore this cosmopolitan city, bursting with Spanish colonial architecture, museums and cultural attractions. We recommend spending the afternoon in the lush surroundings of the Biocentro Guembe Nature Park.* Overnight stay in Santa Cruz.

* Optional Biocentro Guembe Excursion: Set off for Biocentro Guembe, a beautiful nature park and butterfly garden, for a peaceful stroll surrounded by nature. Discover the orchid and ornamental gardens as you enjoy a 3-hour tour of the 23-hectare nature park. Price per person: £79.
