Liverpool is a thriving city with a glorious seafaring history, rejuvenated waterfront and a bustling city centre, as well as an unrivalled musical heritage, being the former home of the Beatles and their close friend, Cilla Black. We enjoy this fabulous city from different perspectives as we take to the water for a ferry ‘cross the Mersey as well as discovering its landmarks on a guided city tour. With a unique lift and river trip at the Anderton Boat Lift also included, this promises to be a fascinating few days away.
The historic Adelphi Hotel is one of Liverpool’s best-loved landmarks, situated in the heart of the city. The hotel has many original period features, including chandeliers and marble halls, and facilities include two bars and a restaurant.

Guided city tour of Liverpool & Ferry ‘cross the Mersey (full day)
We enjoy a three-hour guided city tour of Liverpool, learning all there is to know about its history as an industrial force and, of course, its most famous sons. From the impressive Liver Building to the renovated Albert Dock we’ll discover some of the city’s iconic landmarks. We’ll also explore some of the locations frequented by the Beatles such as the Cavern Club. Cilla Black also performed here while she was a cloakroom attendant and in 2017, a bronze statue of the late singer was unveiled outside the club in her honour.
Next, we board the ferry ‘cross the Mersey, a 60-minute round trip which gives us the chance to take in the sights and panoramas along the River Mersey, from Liverpool’s skyline to the beautiful shorelines of the Wirral on the opposite bank.
Anderton Boat Lift (full day)
We head to Cheshire’s Anderton Boat Lift where we take a combined lift and river cruise to see this magnificent Victorian boat lift in action. One of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Waterways,’ the structure lifts boats and barges 50 feet from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal high above. The lower level houses an insightful exhibition, focusing on the lift’s history and the people who worked there.
Chester – £10pp (full day)
Join us on an optional excursion to the delightful city of Chester, where the sights span the centuries. Wander through the streets of black and white timber-framed buildings and double-height shops or visit the remains of the city’s Roman Amphitheatre. As well as an abundance of historical attractions Chester also has a thriving shopping centre with a host of cafés, restaurants and pubs to tempt you.
