Excursion One – Blists Hill Victorian Town
We head to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, a World Heritage Site with award-winning attractions that celebrate the birth of the Industrial Revolution, set in a beautiful wooded valley along the River Severn.
We spend the day at Blists Hill Victorian Town, an atmospheric, recreated Victorian town where we travel back over 100 years to experience a traditional Christmas. Soak up the yuletide atmosphere with seasonal entertainment and activities. Watch as the townsfolk busily make preparations for Christmas, Victorian style! Listen to brass bands, meet Father Christmas’ reindeer and enjoy delicious festive food and drink (not included).
Excursion Two – Coalport China Museum & Wightwick Manor
We return to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums where we visit the Coalport China Museum. As we walk around the distinctive buildings of this fascinating museum, we can browse the exquisite collections of Coalport and Caughley china including elaborate vases and hand-painted miniatures, see how this fine porcelain was made and watch traditional techniques such as ceramic decorating brought to life at the riverside workshop.
This afternoon we head to Wightwick Manor, a quirky Victorian, timber-framed house with interiors decorated with the designs of William Morris and his Arts and Crafts contemporaries. Owned by the Mander family, the house was given to the National Trust in 1937. The house contains a remarkable collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings but the highlights of Wightwick’s Christmas are the beautiful, traditionally-made festive decorations that adorn the rooms.
