Vibrant, timeless and fun, Blackpool has remained one of the UK’s favourite seaside destinations since the 19th century. From our base here we journey into yesteryear on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, travelling through the gorgeous scenery of the Ribble Valley towards Carlisle and visit the picturesque coastal town of Morecambe. With a chance to experience the natural beauty of the Lake District too, this trip perfectly combines traditional seaside resorts, nostalgic journeys and stunning countryside.
The Chequers Plaza Hotel is located on Blackpool’s Queen’s Promenade and offers panoramic views of the Irish Sea. The hotel is set on a tranquil part of the seafront, yet the bustling centre of Blackpool is just a short tram ride away, with the tram stops located opposite the hotel.

Today we enjoy a memorable journey on the world-famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. Arguably the most scenic line in the country, it took 6,000 men seven years to build. The line cuts a 72-mile swathe across the Yorkshire Dales, over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, through the long tunnel at Blea Moor and on past the lush pastures of the Eden Valley before arriving in the historic city of Carlisle, where we enjoy some free time at leisure.
