Located in the centre of the Italian mainland, Umbria is known as the country’s 'green heart', its undulating landscape peppered with verdant winding valleys, olive groves, vineyards and cypress-dotted hills. Amidst the untouched scenery are beautifully preserved towns and cities, often commanding panoramic positions looking over the beautiful rolling hills. From our base near Perugia, we explore the region’s highlights as well as some of those in neighbouring Tuscany. Visit St. Francis’ birthplace of Assisi, the bustling city of Perugia and central Italy’s largest lake, Lago di Trasimeno. There is the opportunity to taste the local wine too and the option to join a cookery class to try your hand at re-creating some of the region’s delicious specialities.
