Fly north, and upon arrival at Inverness Airport, meet your friendly tour manager for the forty five minute transfer to your hotel. Take some time to rest and relax as you settle into your new surroundings. The Carrbridge Hotel is situated on the edge of the village, which offers some delightful local walks (the hotel staff will be happy to point you in the right direction) and acts a gateway to the scenic Cairngorms National Park. The famous old packhorse bridge, dating back to 1717 and reputed to be one of the oldest in the Scottish Highlands, is just opposite the hotel. This evening, enjoy dinner followed by some traditional entertainment – the perfect start to your festive break.
After a relaxed breakfast, join your friendly tour manager as you head west to Fort William, huddled beneath mighty Ben Nevis at the gateway to the Great Glen. Here you’ll board a train for the 42-mile scenic journey on the last stretch of the famous West Highland Line, all the way to the tiny fishing village of Mallaig. Voted by readers of Wanderlust Magazine as Britains’s most scenic train journey, this spectacular route crosses the Caledonian Canal – look out for ‘Neptune's staircase’, a succession of eight locks built in the early 19th century – then runs alongside Loch Eil and over the spectacular 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, famously featured in the ‘Harry Potter’ films. Other highlights of this scenic journey include island-studded Loch Eilt, considered by many to be the prettiest along the route, Arisaig, Britain's most-westerly railway station, and the Atlantic-washed sands of Morar, just south of Mallaig. Return to the hotel to begin your Christmas in earnest. Once again dinner is served at the hotel and is followed by some light-hearted entertainment. Perhaps stroll the 400 yards to Carrbridge Church in time for the traditional service.
Merry Christmas! Enjoy a relaxed, informal day in the hotel, with plenty of opportunities to chat with your new-found friends over morning coffee and tea. Perhaps after breakfast you’ll choose to join in the short Christmas Morning service at the Carrbridge Church. This afternoon, enjoy a traditional sherry in the lounge, followed by a full Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings. A relaxed afternoon is followed by a buffet dinner in the evening and the chance to enjoy a traditional Highland Cèilidh band, completing the pleasures of a wonderful Christmas Day.
Spend today relaxing after yesterday’s festivities. After breakfast, perhaps wrap up warm and take a short walk in the village, take part in the village treasure hunt or a light-hearted quiz in the bar. Alternatively, you may choose to join your friendly tour manager for an optional mystery tour to a nearby place of interest. However you decide to spend your last full day in the Scottish Highlands, re-join fellow guests this evening for a last night of Highland hospitality, enjoying dinner followed by live entertainment – the perfect way to complete a relaxing day.
After breakfast, bid farewell to the Highlands and travel back to the airport for the return flight, at the end of a wonderful few festive days.

Alternatively, relax and unwind beside the blue waters of Lake Garda, enjoy a guided tour of Poland’s former royal capital or spend a few nights in the heart of Moscow in Russia. Newmarket Holidays has something special for all couples, groups, families and solo travellers, including romantic breaks in Paris, safari adventures in Kenya, Santa experience days in Lapland and rail journeys through the Italian countryside.
There’s also a choice of holiday types and themes, such as small group tours, rail holidays, UK and Ireland short breaks, Christmas markets and cultural experiences, as well as concerts and events. As a company that now focuses on UK, European and Worldwide air holidays, ocean cruises and river cruises, you can even choose how to travel to your chosen destinations. Not forgetting that Newmarket Holidays specialises in included and optional excursions to ensure your escorted tours are memorable from beginning to end.
When you choose an air holiday, you can either tour as many attractions and cultures as you can fit in or base yourself at a quiet resort and take your pick from a collection of excursions and day trips. This means that your holiday can be as adventurous or as relaxing as you wish. If a cruise is your ideal group tour, Newmarket Holidays has departures from nearly every major port in the UK and can take you to places in and around Europe, the Canary Islands, the Baltic Cities, Greenland, the Far East, Australia and Africa. You can also choose from a wide range of European and worldwide river cruises or select a Christmas and New Year river cruise along the Danube, the Rhine or the Seine River.
From the moment you book an escorted tour, resort-based stay or cruise holiday, you can have peace of mind that your money is safe because Newmarket Holidays is a member of ABTA and is licensed by ATOL. Also, the company has a 4.5 out of 5 customer rating, which is a testament to the quality of the escorted tours and the outstanding customer care provided by the team. But that’s not all. As Newmarket Holidays is all about offering the best value for money holidays, this competitive tour operator promises to price match any like-for-like escorted tour found cheaper elsewhere.
Please note: After many years of operation, Newmarket Holidays has decided to discontinue the UK and European coach breaks and tours departing from local pick-ups in the UK (as of 2019) to concentrate on its range of UK, European and Worldwide air holidays, ocean cruises and river cruises.
