Discover the wonders of the Silk Road on this 30-day overland group tour which takes in the Central Asian countries of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. See the highlights of unusual Ashgabat, marvel at the flaming Darvaza Gas Crater and take in the historic cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand - the jewel in Uzbekistan's crown. Relax on the shore of Song Kol Lake, stay in a traditional yurt in the desert and marvel at the breathtaking scenery of Kyrgyzstan's Fergana Valley and Jeti Oguz.

  • Ashgabat - begin your adventure in Turkmenistan's bizarre and modern capital and explore the city on a guided minibus tour

  • Tashkent - explore the Soviet-style Uzbek capital independently and opt to visit the world's oldest copy of the Koran at Hast Imam Square
  • Bishkek - complete your overland journey to the hospitable capital of Kyrgyzstan and enjoy free time to browse Osh bazaar or visit Ala-Too Square

Day 1: Welcome to Ashgabat
( overnight in Ashgabat )
Arrive in Ashgabat and transfer to our joining hotel for a pre-departure meeting. There's then an included minibus tour of the city.

Day 2: Darvaza Gas Crater
( overnight in Darvaza)
Board our overland truck as we head into the Karakum Desert. There's a visit to the amazing flaming Darvaza Gas Crater and we find a suitable spot to wild camp tonight.

Day 3: Kunye Urgench
( overnight in Kunye Urgench)
We continue through the desert to Kunye Urgench today and explore the ruins of the ancient Silk Road city. We wild camp nearby.

Day 4-5: Khiva
( overnight in Khiva )
On day 4 we browse the markets in the border town of Dasoguz and cross into Uzbekistan. We then drive to the beautiful Silk Road city of Khiva, where we can enjoy a guided tour on day 5.

Day 6-8: Historic Bukhara
( overnight in Bukhara )
It's a long drive to Bukhara on day 6. There's a guided tour of the city the next day and free time on day 8 to explore independently or join optional activities including a visit to Zindon Prison.

Day 9: Nurata & the Kyzylkhum Desert
( overnight in Nurata)
Journey into the Kyzylkhum Desert and stop near the town of Nurata. Here we can enjoy an optional camel ride and spend the night camping in traditional yurts.

Day 10-12: Exploring Samarkand

On day 10 we explore the Nurata Hills and you can opt for a dip in Lake Ajdar Kul before we drive to Samarkand. There's a guided tour on day 11 and the following day is free to explore.

Day 13-15: Tashkent

The morning of day 13 is free to explore Samarkand before we travel to the modern capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent. There are two full days to take in the highlights of the city independently.

Day 16: Uzbek Fergana Valley

Today we cross the Kamchik Pass in local transport, stopping en route in Kokand to see the Khudayar Khan's Palace and the Margilan Silk Factory. We then arrive in Fergana where we are reunited with our overland truck.

Day 17: Arslanbob
( overnight in Arslanbob)
Journey over the border into Kyrgyzstan today and arrive in Arslanbob, in the heart of the Fergana Valley.

Day 18-20: Kyrgyz Fergana Valley

Spend the next three days overlanding through the Kyrgyz Fergana Valley, stopping often to hike in the amazing scenery. We wild camp along the route (weather permitting).

Day 21-22: Magical Song Kol Lake
( overnight in Song Kol Lake)
Drive to the shore of Song Kol Lake on day 21, nestled in remote and beautiful scenery. Over the next two days there's time for optional hiking and horse-riding, and we stay in traditional felt yurts.

Day 23: Kochkor
( overnight in Kochkor )
Drive to the small village of Kochkor where we'll be staying in small family-run guesthouses. There's an included visit to the local museum and we visit a women's felt making cooperative, where the traditional 'shyrdak' carpets are produced.

Day 24-25: Jeti Oguz Valley
( overnight in Jeti Oguz)
On day 24 we watch a demonstration from a local eagle hunter en route to the Jeti Oguz Valley where there's free time to hike in the stunning terrain and you can opt for a horse-rising experience.

Day 26: Karakol
( overnight in Karakol )
We drive to the Russian-style town of Karakol where the afternoon is free to relax or explore the town independently.

Day 27-28: Cholpon Ata petroglyphs & Chong Kemin
( overnight in Chong Kemin)
Visit the petroglyphs at Cholpon Ata on day 27 before arriving in the Chong Kemin Valley. There's free time to hike in the region the next day, or you can join an optional white water rafting adventure.

Day 29: Bishkek
( overnight in Bishkek )
Stop at the Burana Tower en route to Bishkek where there is free time to explore Kyrgyzstan's capital.

Day 30: Bishkek

Today your adventure comes to an end.
