Experience a Battlefields tour to remember combining guided tours of the battlefields with a ticket to watch the Journey’s End play. Held for the first time in 2017, the play has fantastic reviews from the Daily Telegraph which reviewed “Enthralling, good-humoured, finally heart-rending...This production is worth a trip to Belgium.” It is the only play written by someone who fought in WW1. R.C. Sheriff was injured at Passchendaele whilst fighting in the great war.
First staged in London in 1928, it had Laurence Olivier as the lead, and is set in a dugout for the 4 days leading up to a massive attack. The tension, terror and claustrophobia are played out in front of you.
As well as the fantastic play, this tour also visits some of the main battlefield sites of WWI with the services of an experienced and knowledgeable battlefields guide who bring the stories to life. See the official leaflet.
Situated in a quiet location in the area of Neuville-en-Ferrain, close to Lille the Hotel des Acacais offers a friendly atmosphere for the perfect break
We enjoy the Journey’s End play in the intimate setting of the Old Ballroom at the Skindles Hotel in Poperinge. The venue used to be the Officers Club next to Talbot House. Trained actors bring to life the harrowing conditions the soldiers suffered in the days leading up to a massive attack. Following the play we visit Ypres where we will witness the emotional Last Post at Menin Gate.
Visit a museum devoted to the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele where in 1917 almost 500,000 men were killed in 100 days. Visit the dugout experience and walk through trenches which have been meticulously replicated to give an idea of the conditions in 1917.
With our expert guide we travel through the fields of the Somme to Peronne, where we visit key sites including the interesting Historial de la Grande Guerre Museum; Impressive Thiepval Memorial and moving Beaumont Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Park.
With our expert guide we visit key sites of the Flanders battlefields where some of the bloodiest battles of World War I occurred with large scale casualties. In the afternoon we visit the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres.
