See Amsterdam from a different perspective on this 75 minute cruise around the famous canals. English commentary is provided as we cruise around the sites and attractions of Amsterdam and it will also give us a chance to learn more about the city’s history.
From Bruges we’ll make our way to Sluis in neighbouring Holland, where we’ll have free time to explore this enticing town. With its popular shopping areas and lovely atmosphere, it’s easy to fall in love with this excellent destination. Sluis is often thought of as the most Flemish town in the Netherlands, and its Flemish-style belfry certainly proves this!
As Holland’s capital city, Amsterdam is guaranteed to be a fantastic place to visit during our break. The city is famous for its expansive canal system and many bridged islands, for which it’s earned the name ‘Venice of the North’. This vibrant city will be a highlight on our holiday, as it is absolutely packed with things to do.
The Museum Square, or ‘Museumplein’, is home to some of the most significant museums in the city, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum. All three are well worth touring in our spare time in the city, and there’s also the Anne Frank House and the Civic Guards Gallery, as well as many other exhibits and sights.
Watch traditional crafts such as clog and cheese making or visit the windmills and traditional buildings at Zaanse Schans. Local charges apply for some attractions. We will then continue to Volendam, a coastal town where the villagers still dress in their traditional dress in the shops, cafes and restaurants perched around a pretty harbour. On our return we will visit a cheese factory to watch a demonstration of how they make their famous cheese.
The 4 star NH Jan Tabak is located in Bussum, 20 minutes drive from Amsterdam. The rooms are bright and comfortable with free wi-fi.
