Metropol breakfast and Bolshoi tour

This morning we take breakfast at the beautiful 5-star Hotel Metropol, before going on to the nearby famous Bolshoi Theatre for an interesting hour tour.

The Hermitage Museum

Our guide will take us today to a highlight of the tour – the magnificent Hermitage Museum, a wonderful collection of art in the winter palace of Catherine the Great. Founded in 1764, this is one of the largest museums in the world - its collection includes over 2.7 million items, including masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Rodin, Rembrandt and Rubens. We also include the new General Staff building, home to the French impressionist collection – a feast for art lovers. After our tour finishes, you may choose to stay on longer at the museum, explore the city at leisure, or return to the hotel.

Kremlin and Armoury Museum

Today our guide will accompany us as we take you to the most famous landmark of the Russian capital and symbol of its power, the magnificent Kremlin. Within its wall is the fascinating Armoury Museum, where we will see a spectacular collection of costumes, silver and arms, amongst a vast treasure trove of exhibits.

Catherine’s Summer Palace (Included)

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken by your guide to visit one of St Petersburg’s most prized palaces. In the town of Pushkin, formerly Tsarskoye Selo, south of St. Petersburg, is Catherine’s Summer Palace. The construction of the palace for the Empress Catherine started in 1717. A park in the French style was laid out around the palace and, in the middle of 18th century, Tsarskoye Selo became the official royal residence. This palace is famous for the ‘Amber Room’, now completely restored to its former glory.

St Petersburg city tour and Peter and Paul Fortress (Included)

Enjoy a panoramic orientation tour of the city, where we will see all the major sights of beautiful St Petersburg. You will see the world-renowned Hermitage Museum, housed in the Winter Palace, and pass along Nevsky Prospect. St Isaac’s cathedral is also on our route, as well as the Church on the Spilled Blood. Later we include a visit to Peter and Paul Fortress, which guards the city of St Petersburg, located on an island, facing the Hermitage and dominating the River Neva. Built as a fortification during the Russian-Swedish war, it was never used as a fortress and its bastions were turned into political prison cells. Peter and Paul Cathedral, designed by Tresini, contains the remains of Russian rulers since 1725.
