Welcome to amazing Italy! Upon arrival at Venice Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration, collect our luggage and transfer by shared taxi boat to to a stop close to our hotel in Venice. In the evening we will join other Solos guests for a welcome drink at our hotel before enjoying a welcome dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight Venice
After breakfast at our hotel we will begin our guided 2 hour city tour of Venice. Based near beautiful St Mark’s Square, we can spend our time sightseeing and exploring the historical centre of Venice, soaking in the opulent mosaics, statues and marble walls of Basilica of San Marco and the Doge’s Palace (entrance included). One of Venice’s main landmarks, the Doge's Palace was built in Venetian Gothic style and was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Venetian Republic, opening as a museum in 1923. After breakfast we will walk (or take a water bus at your own cost) to the train station and take a train to Verona. We will meet our guide here and go on a half-day guided visit of Verona. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, and also known as Piccola Roma (little Rome), the enchanting city of Verona straddling the Adige river in northern Italy has so much to offer. We can explore this city's squares, bridges and odd creative masterpiece. December sees the entrance to the city illuminated by hundreds of lights which flow into the streets of the centre. Piazza dei Signori plays host to the exquisite ‘Christkindlmarkt’, full to the brim with wooden huts offering traditional crafts and decorations, gifts and of course delicious local specialities and desserts. In the afternoon we will return to Venice. Overnight Venice
After breakfast we will begin our guided visit of Venice (2 hours) with an English speaking guide. Our second walking tour will showcase the typical quarters of the city, with their beautiful lanes and bridges. Here we can discover La Fenice, Scala del Bovolo and Il Rialto: the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal. After tour, the rest of the day is free for you to explore Venice independently. Overnight Venice
After breakfast we will walk (or take a water bus at your own cost) to the train station and take a train to Padua. Padua is a picturesque city with arcaded streets that lead into open squares, and is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. We will meet our guide here and start our half-day guided walking tour of Padua which includes a visit to the Scrovegni Chapel (Cappella degli Scrovegni) with its beautiful frescoes by Giotto, and a wander through the local markets. Open every day except Sunday, here we can get a real taste of life in Padua, with friendly locals and vendors. In the afternoon we will return to Venice. Overnight Venice
After breakfast we will transfer by taxi boat to Venice Airport from a stop that’s closer to the hotel.
