Eccentric, romantic, and innovative, Venice defies the tides of history. Its famous canals, once a defense against barbarian armies, belie its vulnerability and uniqueness as a timeless city on the edge, teeming with art and restless energy. You can feel that ancient energy on a guided walking tour of St. Mark's Basilica, adorned with domes, columns and spires, its gilded, soaring walls and ceilings profusely decorated with Byzantine mosaics and relics. Aural art has a history here too: antiphonal music was born in the basilica's peculiar design and perfect acoustics. No less inspiring is the adjacent Doge's Palace, a mass of pink marble that seems to float on tiers of Gothic arcades. Once the seat of power in the Venetian empire, the palace is now a museum of art treasures and a work of art itself in every intricate detail. Experience Venice up close and in style on a gondola ride through its maze of water lanes. Dine as you please this evening and explore the city's vibrant contemporary culture in its fine restaurants, shops and galleries.

3* 7 Day Venice Florence Rome
The tour was ok. The group was too large (39 people) to maneuver through these big cities and folks ability to walk and keep up was extremely varied and frustrating. Tauck also advertised first class tickets between cities but was unable to secure enough tickets for the train ride forcing 3 couples to sit in coach despite paying the same amount. The tour of the Colosseum and the Vatican - both were spectacular.

5* In love with Italy
From the moment we left, we missed the wonderful sights, the tremendous food, the kind people, the rich history and fabulous shopping that we experienced during our Venice, Florence, Rome trip. Giorgio is such a strong contributor to the wonderful experience that we had. He got to know us, gave us just the right amount of information. Too many to count...Cistine Chapel, being in St. Mark's square at sunrise, beautiful hotels, a room in Venice that opened onto a canal, watching the sun set over Florence.

5* Venice, Florence and Rome
Great trip! So much to see, and Tauck made it possible. Wonderful hotel locations, entry to the must-see sights in each city, entertaining local guides and a fabulous Tauck tour guide. Bring your athletic shoes because this is an active tour, but get ready to be amazed. It would be hard to duplicate this experience on your own. Hard to choose. Top 3: winery visit and wine-paired meal in Tuscany, private tour of Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, 4-course meal with wines to match in Florence. Honorable mention: the best ever gelateria in Florence recommended by our Tauck guide

My title of review says it all Fantastic! This was our first trip with Tauck and first trip to Italy. It was all to us just wonderful. But I believe what made it extra special was our Tour Director and host, [Employee Name]. Venice,Florence,Rome were all wonderful, it was amazing for us. Bravo Tauck. It was all very memorable. We were fortunate to have the musicians on the Gondola ride, that was wonderful. Of course seeing David, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel at night. The amazing meal at the winery in Tuscany. All the wonderful food, even the water taxi rides were fun! Everything was memorable. Great restaurants recommended by our tour guide

Bad start. Woman who met us in Venice left us and luggage standing in the rain to get water taxi. But when our guide took charge everything went smoothly. Hotels in Venice and Rome were excellent; wonderful locations. Tours, food, advice about free time, etc. could not have been better.Great fun! Sistine Chapel after hours was special Putting roses on the graves of American soldiers in American Cemetery in Florence.

5* Best trip ever!!!
My husband and I had the time of our lives, from the day we arrived in Venice until the day we departed Rome. Our Tauck Director was absolutely incredible, Tauck is first class all the way. The people in our group were acquaintances when we arrived and friends when we departed. The memories will stay with us for a lifetime. Our entire trip was memorable, however our most memorable moment was walking into St Peter's Basilica and the feeling of awe that washes over you!!!! Definitely something we will NEVER forget!!!

5* Fantastic vacation!!
This was our very first Tauck tour and it exceeded our expectations!! In large part, this was due to our tour guide. He provided spot-on recommendations for walking tours, restaurants, shopping and where to find the best gelato in each city!! He didn't miss a beat and we loved every minute of our trip. We booked a private car with another couple and saw Rome by night for 90 minutes. It was not cost-prohibitive at all ($30 per person, which included tip) and the sights at night bathed in light were amazing. Also, visiting the Coliseum was breathtaking. All of the local tour guides were terrific!!

5* Venice, Florence, Tuscany
This was my granddaughter Caitlin's graduation gift. After we got over the jet lag we really enjoyed the trip. The tour director was so helpful to us and had a wonderful sense of humor. I had been to Italy four times before so much of it was a repeat but he added some extras I had not seen so it was fresher to me. Enjoyed Tuscany and the country side. I do feel too much time was spent on food. We left the dinner at a special restaurant before desert after three hours! Loved our pizza making.

5* Trip of a lifetime!!
We had a fabulous time & many memorable moments! The itinerary was well laid out with enough 'group' time & just enough 'free' time. Our tour director was very knowledgable & always had great 'tidbits' of information to give us. The hotels were definitely 5 stars & we never had to deal with luggage except in the airport!! The food was fabulous. Just visiting such amazing places that are 2,000 years old....like the colosseum. Had a wonderful winery tour in the outskirts of Florence and learned so much about wine making as it really is a science. Also were served a fabulous lunch at the winery, some of the best Italian food I have ever had.

5* Great introduction to Italy
This was our first trip to Italy, so we wanted to see the highlights, and this trip provided those and more. The trip tour guide and the local guides were surely the highlight of the trip. They added context and enlightenment. Good pacing--breathtaking Venice to artistic Florence to historic, romantic Rome. Seeing the David for the first time will remain a lifelong memory. You can see it in photos, but when you see it in person, it is larger than life. Also can't mention Italy without mentioning the food. One fabulous meal after another--and don't even talk about the gelato on every corner!

5* Venice, Florence, Rome
We had a great trip. We saw loads of art that we could not have seen any where else. All meals were tasty and wonderful. We walked a lot, and climbed many, many steps which helped to work off the delicious wine we drank. We met a lot of nice people who travelled with us, including local guides and our trip director. I am not sure that we had just one. We enjoyed Venice the most, and then Florence and Rome. The Sistine Chapel is something we will never forget.

5* Bucket List
Going to Italy was on my wife's bucket list. She visited the places she has been hearing about all of her life. For her, the Vatican was the most important. We arrived a day early - a good idea in adjusting to the time change and resting from the trip - and stayed a day after the tour. We used the additional day at the end to go to Pompei. For the tour, the Vatican Museum after hours. It was so much better without the crowds. The dinner at Mirabelle's restaurant with another family on our last night was a great ending to our trip.

5* A busy but smoothly organized tour of Italy
Tauck provided a rewarding experience in three cities in eight days, ensuring that we saw the cultural and historical highlights in each city. The guides were lively, helpful, and knowledgeable. It took a lot of energy to participate in everything that was offered so I am glad that I had planned my free time activities in advance. We stopped at the Florence American Memorial where more than 5,000 American military who died in Italy during World War II are resting or remembered. They were all very young, and I am grateful that Italy cares for them so beautifully.

5* Everything I Expected and More!
We had visited each city previously, while cruising, but wanted a more in depth experience this time. Tauck had the best hotel locations for time on our own compared to any other tour operators I researched. This proved to be an excellent choice for us. Everything was wonderful about this trip from the tour director to the entire itinerary! Walking through the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel with just our group and no one else! The guards gave us as much time as we wanted in the Sistine Chapel. What a treat compared to the two previous times we visited with the other cattle call of people.

5* Best of the best in Italy!
It was my first time traveling with Tauck (My husband, too) and we had the time of our lives. First class everything! I'm not sure I could ever go back to planning my own vacations. Tauck (and our guide) took all the worries out of international travel. I can't wait for our next trip! It would be impossible to narrow down to one thing, but the gondola ride in Venice will be forever remembered!

5* A Week In... Venice, Florence & Rome...
From the time we got to Venice till the time we left to go home every detail from transportation to tours were covered! There was a great mix of tours and free time. This meant we were not always running. We had some meals on our own and at the suggestion of Jennifer our Tour Director we received ideas on where to eat and they were all phenomenal. The trip in general jaw dropping. Florence was our favorite but the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel were greater than expected. If you get the chance to do "Rome at Night" which is an extra curricular activity the "Key Hole" is an incredible and amazing moment.

5* Magnifico
Just loved it; simply loved it. Our Tour director was amazing. Loved the fact that all the hotels were so close to the main attractions. Special dinner/snack in the Vatican garden court yard after the Sistine Chapel visit was the icing on the cake. Also enjoyed the entertainment at the goodbye dinner in the hotel. Our Tour Director suggested that we go see the Monks at a monastery in Florence who sing the Gregorian Chant during the mass. We saw an old monk suffering from Kyphosis almost to crippled by the disease to walk but he still participated in the mass as he feebly stood up to give his blessing at the communion table. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT :)

2* Nice places, horrible guide
While I enjoyed Italy, our tour guide was by far the worst tour guide I've ever had. She put my elderly mother in a horrible position during the Vatican/Sistine Chapel tour where I had to physically help her up a tremendous amount of stairs, when she had promised elevator availability. Unfortunately the most memorable moment had nothing to do with the tour, when my mother and I went to the Pantheon in lieu of the St. Peters tour.

5* Venice,Florence, & Rome
Tauck made our vacation stress free, from the time we booked our trip until the time we returned home. Our tour guide did an outstanding job. He was very knowledgeable about the places we visited and was very personable. The hotels and meals Tauck included in the tour were excellent. We would definitely travel with Tauck again! Our most memorable moment was the tour at the Vatican, including the nighttime visit to the Sistine Chapel. However, other memorable moments included the gondola ride in Venice, the Coliseum tour in Rome, and an unscheduled stop at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial en route to the Tuscan countryside.

I have made many trips to Italy, but for my granddaughter who was a first time traveler this was a good introduction to this fabulous country. Our tour leader was a good fit for both adults and teenagers. The activities were varied, and there was enough free time to explore on our own. The art lecture in Florence was a great background for the masterpieces we would see there. The professor was funny, articulate and informative.

Great trip with only 20 other guests. The weather was better than expected. Pros: Great hotel locations Great local guides High speed train Meals Fair amount of 'free' time allowed us to go to Pisa for the afternoon. Cons: No AC in the Venice hotel Other: Heard complaints about our tour director, but we could not compare (our 1st tour). After hours Sistine Chapel visit was awesome. We were allowed to take a 'few' photos. The day trip to the Chianti winery was also a great experience.

This is a fast paced, whirlwind trip that lets you get a taste of Italy. Venice, Florence and Rome are beautiful cities with so much history and so much to do and see. This was our first trip to Italy so it was the best possible experience for us. They make sure you see as much as possible but don't go into overload which is easy. They are on top of every detail and go out of there way to make sure everyone is happy. They exceeded my expectations so I will book with them again we are looking at Antarctica next There were so many but for me coming into Venice by water taxi from the airport was special, seeing all this history unfold before you as you are on the water was a magic moment and then you arrive at the dock that is at the front door of your hotel and you know this is going to be a great trip

Everything about it was wonderful from the beautiful accommodations to the gondolas ride on the Grand Canal to seeing the David and Sistine Chapel! Meals were superb...train and bus rides were clean and comfortable! Our guide was fantastic! This was very personal as we traveled the route my mother had taken 47 years earlier. 4* Venice, Florence, Rome...wonderful!
Overall, The Tauck trip was terrific. Our tour director gets 5 stars! She was amazing...smart, funny, beautiful and informative! Never let her go. Our individual tour guides in each city were top notch. You fell short in informing us that we needed more Euros to tip servers (cash only!), as we did not know this beforehand. There were two memorable moments...our surprise visit to the American cemetery of the 4100 American soldiers killed in Italy during WWll. It was very emotional and the grounds were beautiful and serene. And of course, visiting the Sistine Chapel was beautiful and awe inspiring. Our tour guide made it an amazing experience.

The tour was well balanced between guided tours/activities and ample free time on our own, aided by our Tauck Director's great suggestions. Of course the private tour of the Sistine chapel was amazing, but we especially enjoyed our day in Tuscany with the wine luncheon and the surprise stop at the Florence American Cemetery Memorial.....a very moving experience.

5* Venice, Florence and Rome
The trip was a delight and Tauck lived up to it's reputation, only one exception which was our accommodations in Florence. The hotel was worn down and the food was less than palatable. Unfortunately, this was our longest stay at any one hotel which put a damper on the trip overall. Would have been over the top without these accommodations. Certainly, the Sistine chapel private tour was over the top. The vineyard in Tuscany and our tour Director Andrea was exceptional.

5* Great sampling of Italy!
This was the second trip my husband, son, and I have taken with Tauck. Our other trip took place over 15 years ago. We would not consider using any other company. This trip gave us the most concise overview of Venice, Florence and Rome with a few surprises, but left us thirsting for more knowledge and the desire to return. My most memorable moment was seeing the Roman ruins. It enabled me to visualize how Rome may have once looked unlike any book or film. Now when I read about Ancient Rome, I have a reference point. My husband loved the musicians at the final dinner, reminding him of songs from his childhood. Our son loved the artwork and sculptures.

5* Venice, Florence, Rome
It was excellent from start to finish. Well organized, good tour director who was helpful in all ways, the tour itself was a nice mix of organized and free time. The after hours tour of the Vatican was amazing. But other moments came close: the day at the winery in Tuscany, complete with stop at American WWII cemetery and the art--so much amazing art.

5* a week in Venice, Florence and Rome -july 2 -9
Superb! Wow! Oustanding! A very memorable vacation, one of the best for me and my husband. The daily activities throughout the trip were planned perfectly. The hotels were beautiful and elegant ,the meals were exquisite and the activities especially the museum visits were huge highlights of the trip. Hats off to you Tauck, Grazia mille! Loved the Vatican City visit after hours , I was in awe looking at the Sistine chapel ceiling. The visit to the American soldiers cemetery in Florence was a humble and emotional ecperirnce. The Tuscany vineyard trip followed by an exquisite lunch.

5* Phenominal experience.
This was the best trip we have ever taken. Every detail was covered by our fantastic Tour Director and all the city guides. Fabulous hotels too. This will be the first of many Tauck trips for us. Being able to visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with only the 38 other tour members and our guide. Unbelievable.

4* Venice, Florence & Rome 2015
My granddaughter and I had a great adventure with our Tour Director and our fellow Taukies touring three of Italy's "must see" cities! I've toured many times with Tauck (and had toured with my graddaughter previously in 2002) and this was trip was confirmation that Tauck is still the BEST! Definitely our after-hours tour of the Vatican Museums!

5* Molto bene!
Overall we thought this was one of our best trips ever. Some things were not perfect, but it was not under your control. - We couldn't take the water taxi from the airport due to a boat race - The weather was much hotter than average - The air conditioning was broken when we went to see "David" You always did your best to rectify/improve. The After hours Sistine chapel tour.

4* Venice, Florence and Rome
It was a great trip from day one with a boat ride from the airport to the hotel in Venice to the last night at the Sistine Chapel by our selves and a wonderful guide to bring the art and history to life. The tour guide, Andrea, was fun and always accessible. He was extremely knowledgeable. The special meals and surprises takes it over the top! Too many! The Primavera by Botticelli in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence was so beautiful. The Michelin starred wine tasting and lunch was pretty special too. But the Sistine Chapel is something that renders one speechless.

Fabulous!!! Our tour director was fantastic. It was a pleasure just having to be at a certain location and not have to worry about luggage, purchasing event tickets, making reservations at restaurants, etc. Our Tauck Director handled it all. Our tour guides at the museums were extremely knowledgeable which enhanced our tours. There is so much more than 1 memorable moment. All the art, history, food, etc. All of these made the trip most memorable.

5* Venice-Florence-Rome
This was a trip to celebrate my daughter's 50th birthday. She had never been to Italy and was overjoyed with what she experienced. It was the perfect tour for us as there were people of all ages in our group. Our tour director was excellent, he was well informed, cared about everyone in the group, and made sure we all enjoyed the tour. The visit to the winery in Tuscany was excellent, had a beautiful day, very interesting and well informed tour guide, excellent meal. Also enjoyed trip to Sistine Chapel at night, the last time I was there it was wall to wall people, with just 24 in our group it was possible to see and appreciate the magnificence of the place.

5* Spouse most impressed and the pressure is on for another one
Extremely smooth tour run by our Tour Director. Well-paced program with measured sightseeing led by knowledgeable local guides with a great sense of humor, lots of free time for exquisite shopping, great choice of quality restaurants, centrally located 5 star hotels. Unbelievable weather for this time of the year - March 12. For my wife - the museums with the narrative of the local guides; the wonderful shopping in Venice and Florence and the walk through the Vatican museum in the afterhours. For me, along with the above, the food in the restaurants, especially the one in the Tuscan countryside, where we had wine-tasting with gourmet menu lunch. Top-notch in every way!

5* The BIG 3 of ITALY!
We travelled from Venice to Florence and finally Rome. Each city we explored in depth with a guide and then had free time to explore on our own. Suggestions were made for ways to spend our time. My most memorable moment was the tour of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. Our guide was very engaging and we learned a lot.

4* October 2016 Trip
The itinerary for this tour could not be better. We got a great overview of these three amazing cities through the planned excursions, and were able to squeeze in many other sites during our ample downtime. Kudos to Tauck for saving us hours of time in lines and picking consistently great local guides to accompany us. The nighttime tour of the Vatican Museums. Having the Sistine Chapel to ourselves -- just two Tauck groups and a few security grounds -- was an awesome experience. And the local guide was the perfect companion to have in this treasure house -- equal parts hilarious, warm and insightful.

5* First Trip to Italy
Our trip was a wonderful introduction to Italy. Visiting Venice, Florence and Rome whet our appetites for more. Our Tauck Tour Director was excellent, as were all the local guides. They were very knowledgeable. I loved hearing the "behind the scenes" stories about artists, and about Italian life in general. The after-hours tour of the Sistine Chapel was a once in a lifetime experience. Made the trip worth every penny! Another favorite moment was the Art History lecture in Florence. I can't remember the instructor's name now, but she teaches for Syracuse University for their semester abroad program. I could've listened to her all day.

We traveled with a first timer and she was so impressed by Tauck's attention to detail and making sure we didn't have to worry about anything. Not for travelers who can't stand 30 min. and lots of uneven walking. This wasn't indicated until we had paid the final amount. Three of us were in a lot of discomfort and guards would not let you lean on railings or sit on benches. Our farewell dinner was excellent, the other meals not good. A $70 dinner should be good. The veal shank was fat. Gondola ride with excellent singer.

Our trip to Venice, Florence, and Rome was awesome! We stayed in Palaces and we were treated like Royals! First class and royal treatment all the way! I could have swore that our tour guide was not a mudblood. She can make a HUGE Coach bus appear in seconds in those narrow streets of Italy! Stupefacente!!! The most memorable moment was when we were in Sistine Chapel. Our private tour was off hours and we had the Sistine Chapel to ourselves! No waiting in line and no crowds and we were able to take as much picture as we can. Michelangelo's paintings were incredible and breath taking! I am truly spoiled after having my first glimpse of Italy through Tauck's eyes. Our tour director was amazing, and our local guides were top notch. We had the perfect mix of organized tours and free time. I was traveling with a group of 4 women friends, and we pushed ourselves daily to see as much as we possibly could. Been to Italy many times but not with a guided, first class tour. Learned more in 8 days than I have in all my years travelling there. Was the first visit for my daughter and it was perfect for a first-timer: director and local guides were amazing. Also loved not having to worry about a thing. Everything is taken care of for you which is great. I can't possibly pick only one moment -there were too many good ones. Riding the high speed, luxury train was a nice treat! It is hard to single out one moment when you are surrounded by history and beauty on a daily basis, but probably the private visit to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel will always rise above the rest.

2* 5 Star Expectations Met with 2 Star Reality
Too much free time to justify tour cost. Opt for Perillo instead. Airport pickup was late, no A/C in Venice hotel, our Tour Director ([Employee Name]) was lazy, arrogant and provided very little insight into Italy other than where to get the best gelato. A special mother-daughter vacation that was long planned and highly anticipated. Imagine: Mother's Day in Venice! Even sweeter now that it looks like mom will soon lose her little girl to a terrific young man. Everything promised was fulfilled down to the smallest detail and several outstanding surprises thrown in as well. Bravo and arrivederci! Impossible choice! La Traviata at La Fenice? Gondola in Venice? Open air lunch near the Catacombs? Wine paired lunch at the vineyard? Welcome or gala farewell dinners? Private tour of the Sistine Chapel? Standing in St. Peter's Square in Rome? In the end, our vote goes to our tour director - without whom none of have been the sheer joy it was. Bravissimo!

My husband and I had the most enjoyable time. We loved every part of the trip. Our guide was so efficient and organized from day 1 until we left for the airport on Sunday. She was sweet and friendly. I would definitely book another tour if she was part of it. The art experts that accompanied us in the individual cities were exceptional It would be very difficult for me to name one. Each city had its own personality. The night at the Sistine Chapel was extra special. We also enjoyed the time on our own. Not being scheduled every minute was a plus for us. 5* Thoughts on our Tauck tour – Venice, Florence & Rome
From the time we stepped out of baggage claim at the airport in Venice, to the time we joined the line for check-in at the Rome airport, we were well cared for and had an excellent vacation. Our Tauck Tour Director was amazing, accommodations were excellent. Overall a good mix of organized tour with plenty of free time for exploring. The after-hours visit to the Sistine Chapel was itself worth the price of taking the Tauck tour. To be able to spend 30+ minutes in that space with a group of only 100 people, fully narrated by our guides, was truly a special experience. We had a wonderfully complete journey, except that we could have stayed for an extra week. (Oh well, next time). Everything "clicked"; on time, as advertised, thanks to our tour director. Our local guides were truly exceptional, too. Despite the 100 degree heat, we had a blast. I particularly enjoyed three special "stops". One was at an Antorini cellar and restaurant, Badia di Passignano, outside of Florence. The second was at the American Cemetery in Florence (a WW II battle memorial). And the third was at a restaurant (for lunch and gelato) in Florence, owned by a fellow Scotsman, http://www.finisterraefirenze.com/.
