This morning, embark on an Amsterdam orientation tour that includes a visit to the world-famous Rijksmuseum, home to many art masterpieces of the Dutch Golden Age, including Rembrandt’s The Night Watch. Amsterdam is often called the "Venice of the North" for its elaborate network of canals that wind through a romantic historic center of cobbled streets and stunningly well-preserved Dutch Renaissance architecture. Following your Rijksmuseum visit, you'll boarding a canal boat for a cruise of the city from the inside, along 17th-century waterways lined with trees, gabled merchant houses and vibrant urban life (a great way to see it – including a slice of Dutch apple pie). Later, you’ll have time to explore the city on your own; Amsterdam’s compact urban landscape is made for exploring, brimming with art museums, coffeehouses, and eclectic architecture. Enjoy cocktails and onboard musical entertainment prior to dinner tonight, before sailing for Dordrecht.

Your riverboat arrives this morning in Dordrecht, a wealthy trading port in the Middle Ages, for an excursion that offers insights into windmills and their ubiquitous role in Dutch life... a visit to the village of Kinderdijk (Child’s Dyke), where the flat landscape, crisscrossed with canals, presents the largest concentration of historic windmills in The Netherlands – which you can choose to explore on a walking tour and a boat ride, or on a two-hour bicycle excursion*. The 19 windmills, most of them built in the 18th century, are national monuments; for centuries, their massive wind-driven mechanisms have been used to pump water out of the polder and into reservoirs and canals, reclaiming land from the river. Such ingenious methods of water management have enabled a country that is almost fifty percent below sea level to exist at all, lending weight to the local saying, “God created the Earth, but the Dutch created Holland.” Return to the riverboat for lunch, with time to relax and enjoy onboard activities as you sail to Cologne, Germany. Dine aboard ship this evening.

Cruise the lowlands of the Rhine this morning before arriving in Köln (Cologne) for a walking tour. One of Germany’s oldest cities (founded in the 1st Century AD), Köln was once a Roman provincial capital, and later a fabulously wealthy medieval trading port; the city was almost totally destroyed during World War II, but many of its architectural treasures have been restored, including its Romanesque churches, the 12th century town hall, and the towering Köln Cathedral, a twin-spired masterpiece of High Gothic architecture. Enjoy free time to discover Köln's urban treasures, such as its beer gardens, wine taverns and chocolate museum. Then depart for Engelskirchen and its neighboring castle, Schloss Ehreshoven. Built in the 14th Century and later expanded in the style of a grand Baroque manor house, the estate is surrounded by a moat, gracious gardens, and a castle park. Schloss Ehreshoven is frequently used as a film location but this evening it’s the elegant setting for a Tauck Exclusive cocktail reception and dinner with entertainment. Return to the riverboat, which sails tonight for Rüdesheim.

The romantic Middle Rhine with its castle ruins, wine-towns, and steep sloping vineyards unfolds on this morning’s cruise, with commentary by your Tauck director; the landscape is alive with myths and legends, from the Nibelung to the siren of Lorelei Rock. After lunch onboard, dock in the winemaking town of Rüdesheim, at the foot of the Niederwald, where the ruins of Ehrenfels Castle and the lofty Niederwald monument preside over the Rhine Gorge. Here, you may choose a walking tour of this 1,000-year-old town with its cobblestone streets of storybook houses, cozy cafés and wine taverns; among its unique, must-see attractions is Siegfried’s Mechanisches Musikkabinett, a museum dedicated to antique self-playing musical instruments, which you'll visit. Siegfried’s mesmerizing collection includes orchestrions, musical clocks, player pianos, fairground organs, self-playing violinas, and the world’s largest automated doll orchestra. Stop in for wine-tasting and snacks at Rüdesheimer Schloss, an historic hotel and restaurant with its own vineyard and family wine estate. Alternatively, you may choose to join us for a one-hour bicycle excursion* along the Rhine. Return to the riverboat for a reception and the chef's Signature Dinner this evening as you sail for Karlsruhe.

Arrive in Karlsruhe this morning and depart by coach to the spa town of Baden-Baden where curative waters and an air of olde-world luxury have attracted royals, the rich and many celebrities over the years. The Black Forest town boasts grand colonnaded buildings and whimsically turreted art nouveau villas spread across the hillsides framed by forested mountains. You'll enjoy a choice of two excursions in this grand dame of a German spa town that includes a guided walking tour with an opportunity to visit Caracella Spa with indoor and outdoor thermal baths, a rock grotto with hot and cold water, Roman sauna, steam bath and more; or an Ebike excursion where you'll explore the surrounding areas of interest riding past lush woodlands that stretch out along the flat Rhine valley with views of forested mountains in the distance. Return to the ship late afternoon for social hour in the lounge followed by dinner and musical entertainment onboard.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Location: Colmar, France

Dock in the rivertown of Breisach, Germany this morning, then drive to the village of Colmar, France, in Alsatian wine country. The principal industry in Colmar is food and wine, but its irresistible charm lies in its beautifully preserved medieval architecture that conjures an idyllic place out of time: colorful houses and gardens, rambling cobbled streets and alleys, sculpted fountains, and canals that wind through a corner of town called Little Venice; aside from its winemaking heritage, Colmar is known as the hometown of Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor who created the Statue of Liberty. A walking tour includes a visit to the Unterlinden Museum, housed in a Gothic convent, whose impressive collection includes Matthias Grünewald’s famous Isenheim Altarpiece, paintings, engravings and sculpture from medieval to modern (including works by Dürer and Holbein, Picasso and Léger), and a wealth of archaeological artifacts; join us for a private reception in the museum, a Tauck Exclusive! Later, sample the art of Alsatian cuisine at lunch on your own, then return to the riverboat for a cruise through the dramatic Upper Rhine Plain where sentinel castles, forests and rising mountain ranges drift past. Join the crew tonight for a farewell reception which is followed by dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Location: Lucerne, Switzerland

Disembark your riverboat in Basel, Switzerland, a major industrial and cultural center where France, Germany, and Switzerland meet. The scenic mountain backdrop rises in stature and drama as you leave Basel and arrive in Lucerne, nestled beside a breathtaking blue lake in the alpine foothills. Explore Lucerne’s medieval old town (picturesque market squares, burghers’ houses, spired churches, and restored ramparts) during a walking tour which includes the 14th-century Chapel Bridge, the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, and a lake cruise on shimmering Lake Lucerne. Depart for Bern, the capital of Switzerland and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where an orientation tour discovers its spectacular medieval and Renaissance architecture (limestone buildings, arcades, bridges, fountains, and cathedral), beautifully restored and ringed by the Aare River. Check into the Bellevue Palace, a grand luxury hotel built in 1913, favored by celebrities and heads of state and featured in John le Carré’s spy novels. Your evening is free to spend as you please tonight in this city of cosmopolitan tastes and offbeat, intimate restaurants.

You have a choice of sightseeing adventures today. Head for the snow-capped Alps on a full-day’s excursion to the lofty Jungfraujoch, known as the "Top of Europe" – journey to Grindelwald for a train ride to Kleine Scheidegg, then board a cogwheel train for the scenic climb through the Eiger tunnel to Europe’s highest railway station; here you’ll find a restaurant, observatory, research station, a gallery of ice sculpture, and stunning views of glacier-clad peaks that go on forever. Or explore the eclectic charms of Bern on a walking tour, followed by time on your own: medieval and modern mix artfully in this unhurried atmosphere where sights include open-air markets and cozy underground bars, the Parliament Building, the Gothic cathedral, a bear park (in honor of the town’s symbol and mascot), a house where Einstein lived and wrote his "Theory of Relativity," and the Zytglogge, a medieval astronomical clock featuring animated dancing figures. 5* First Time Riverboat cruising
We had friends who took Riverboat Trips and loved it but we couldn’t imagine going such a short ways in so many days. Well, we were both pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful time it was. We saw a lot, were treated royally, ate well, and best, made new friends. We loved every minute of it! Standing on top of the Jungfrau and looking at Gods beautiful creation!

5* Outstanding Vacation
We have been vacationing at least 8 times a year since 2008 and have been on at least a dozen cruises (Alaska, Canada, Bermuda, PR, and a bunch of Carribean) and I can honestly say this was the best cruise ever. We are going on a Baltic cruise later this year and it will probably be our last big ship cruise because Tauck has set a new standard! Everyday was a new adventure and each was different and better than the day before. Colmar, France was the prettiest and we loved the mid-Rhine valley castles. The food and service on-board was spectacular. Tauck is the only way to tour from now on for us!

3* Too many groups traveling together
Too many large groups within the travelers. They had to be front and center and first in line. They also saved seats for their friends. Next trip I will make sure I question how many groups of 10 or more are on the trip. Tauck was great but also overcome with the numbers. Top of Europe. Jungfraujoc

4* First Tauck Trip
Very interesting and well organized. United Airlines flight to Amsterdam was crowded (no leg room and little or no sleep). Return flight was better (Lufthansa). We should have gotten an upgrade. Room on ship was good. Hotel room in Bern was excellent and staff was very helpful. Airport transport was efficient. Food on ship was good, but not great. Dinner at castle.

5* 5-Star River Cruise
The officers and crew were totally outstanding professionals. We were treated like royalty. We were met in Amsterdam and taken to the Zurich airport in a the BMW Limo. The food was equal to that served in any 5-star restaurant and the selection of beverages was unlimited. The Tour Directors were exceptionally knowledgable, personable and great! It is impossible to have only one "Most Memorable Moment". In addition to just sitting on the top deck of the ship eating a pretzel, drinking a glass of wine while enjoying the scenery as we travelled up the Rhine River, the trip to the Jungfrau topped off the most enjoyable river cruise one could undertake.

3* River cruise on the Rhine
Our cruise was well done. The boat was amazingly efficient given smaller quarters, the food was excellent and the staff were attentive and congenial. The pace on a river cruise is different, definitely slower. The stops we made to tour little towns/villages and their history are just not that interesting. Local guides were mediocre to excellent

4* Nearly perfect
We had a phenomenal time on the trip. The food was excellent, whether on the ship or off. The tour Directors were superb, very knowledgeable and personable. The ship was clean and well-appointed. Disappointed that we did not get our airport transfer, had to pay €40 for taxi. A couple of the tours were pretty rushed (Jungfrau for example). A+! Colmar was an unexpected pleasure!

4* Need change to the itinerary on Rhine, Swiss Alps and Amsterdam
1) Need 1 addtl day in Switzerland: Rushed in Bern, especially after trip to Jungfrau Jock. Add 1 day to the trip. 2) Port calls for Cologne (although castle dinner was excellent) and Stuttgart should be eliminated/modified. Considering the long bus ride, they were truly uninspiring/lacking. Prefer ports with short/no distance from ship. Best: - Switzerland: Love Switzerland (Lucerne, Bern, Jungfrau Jock) - Castle ping-pong - Rudesheim & Colmar Ship, food, ship personnel, and Tauck reps were all great.

4* Our First Tauck Trip!
Tauck delivered a great river cruise/land tour experience. The ship, her crew, and the Tauck Directors were very good. Having "everything" included in the price was a very nice experience. We were impressed! Great Job!

4* Awesome in so many ways!
We definitely appreciated the attention to all details that Tauck provided - we were well taken care of the entire time! Cruising down the Middle Rhine on a beautiful morning viewing and hearing the stories of the historic castles.

5* Wonderful experience
This is a wonderful way to travel. Unpack once and see all the different quaint villages along the Rhine. Tauck is a class act. They think of everything. From landing in Europe to departing and everything in between. The entire crew bend over back wards to make your trip as good as possible. The pace is a little quick but worthwhile. Almost making it to the top of Jungfraujoch!!

5* Am amazing trip, Wonderful ship staff, great Tauck tour directors and wonderful passengers
This was an amazing trip. From the moment it began to its final culmintation in Switzerland. River Cruise from Amsterdam to Switzerland. I can't say enough positives for the ship and the amazing and welcoming staff. The Tauck tour guides both on the ship and in the other touring countries were fabulous. Again to us Tauck never disappoints The trip to the top of Jungfrauloc. Spectacular

4* Amsterdam to Basel
This was our first Tauck river cruise. Having done 2 previous river cruises in France, that was our point of comparison. I was a little disappointed in the long coach rides from the ship to our feature destination. In France, we often got off the ship in the center of town and started our tour. Obviously, this itinerary did not make this possible Even though we had been to the Jungfrauoch before, I still loved the ride and scenery. This was definitely worth the 1 1/2 hour ride. Stutdgart was not worth the ride. Perhaps Heidelberg would have been better. Colmar was charming, but I felt we spent too much time there.

4* Beautiful Rhine!
Autumn colors and fantastic castles were the backdrop for a lovely trip. Pace was moderate, with options for all travelers. Highly skilled tour & cruise directors made all aspects of the trip seamless. A bit more time in each location to explore would have been the only addition to push this to a full 5-star rating. Ship and crew were FABULOUS! The view from the "Top of Europe," the Jungfraujoch, in the Alps was one of the most outstanding sights to witness. The effort and coordination by the tour directors to get everyone prepared, and up the mountain by train, was excellent. The weather also cooperated which made for a spectacular day!

1* Disappointed
This was not a very good trip according to the usual Tauck standards. After taking the "Blue Danube" Tauck tour, this was a letdown What continues to resonate in my mind was the tour director on the night of the "employee performance" giving a summary of the alcoholic beverages being consumed and saying to the guests in essence that if you didn't have a good time you should have because you drank 700 cases of wine (paraphrasing ) etc. Extremely distasteful.

5* River Rhine
It was fantastic. The tour directors took excellent care of us and we wanted for nothing. Tauck really thinks of everything to make your experience memorable. Going on the train to the top of Europe.

4* From canals to glaciers
This trip started below sea level and ended on a mountaintop. The journey from one extreme to the other was punctuated with medieval castles, majestic cathedrals, and tastes of daily life in four different countries with their own languages and customs. It provided a feast for the senses. Our Tauck directors and staff of the MS Grace were superb! Waking up on the river boat on the morning that we would be going into Colmar, the river was covered with swans. What a special welcome to France! The Alsatian town of Colmar was picture perfect with its storks roosting above the yellow sandstone buildings and flower pots galore!

4* Throughly enjobable
It was our first river cruise and it was everything it was advertised to be. However, we were very disappointed that we didn't get to see the Porsche museum or factory tour. We are a Porsche family and our sons-in-law really enjoy cars. It was one of the reasons we choose this cruise. We were also disappointed we didn't get to see the tulips. Going up into the Alps.
Added By:

4* Rushed
All ship staff were excellent. Food and beverage well done. We rarely had time for shopping, and, frequently had to use motor coaches to arrive at destination, which put us on a clock. Tour guide in Stuttgart was awful for our group. The Tauck guide demonstrated poor judgement on numerous occasions, which I repeated in written surveys. The Alps.

5* My first River cruise, on the Rhine - Southbound
This was my first river cruise and I could not have selected a more qualified, professional, or courteous staff. As soon as I arrived at the ship, they took care of everything. The meals were delicious. The tour directors were fantastic and took great care of us, educating us on cities visited, and adding some "surprises" along the way. There are too many to mention. I will always cherish taking this trip!!!

5* Rhine River Cruise
Beyond the experience of dining in a 5 star restaurant each day on board ship was the pampering by a well trained and knowledgeable staff. The daily commentaries were very informative and fun to listen to without being over done. The evening entertainment was awesome - especially the crew night. The Grace cabins had plenty of room and comfortable. The "Top of Europe" in the Alps - Jungfraujoch by train. Kept our Tauck group together on a very busy Sat and made sure we were able to see all the sights. Great way to end a trip going south bound into Switzerland. There were lots of great moments on this trip.

5* Most amazing trip I have ever done
I have traveled a fair amount but this was the best experience I have ever had in my life. Everyone in their lifetime should do a Tauck river cruise. Nothing was ever too much to ask and it was hassle free so many to choose from but sitting in my cabin watching the world go by in the middle of the beautiful Rhine Valley.

5* Tauck Is a Great All Inclusive Line
From the beginning to the end, the Tauck team took care of everything. The tour guides were knowledgeable, caring and well prepared to lead the groups as were the tour directors. The event nights were wonderful. Great food and interesting entertainment. The Inspire (Boat) was beautifully appointed and the food was good and plentiful. The most memorable moment was some or the people we met. The clients of Tauck are generally a more reserved and well traveled group. They were nice, respectful and most importantly, not rude or pushy. That in itself makes for a nice relaxing journey
