Combine the magnificent historic sites and beautiful vistas of Portugal and Spain on this Iberian voyage. We’ll spend three days getting to know Lisbon and its surrounds - including fairytale Sintra - before setting sail for the Algarve. Bask in the ancient wonders of Cádiz, watch out for resident monkeys in Gibraltar and relax in the coastal paradise of Málaga. Then, with an overnight stay in both Valencia and Barcelona, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the quirks of two of Spain’s most vibrant cities.
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Lisbon. On arrival, we transfer to our hotel and the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Today we venture to the fairytale town of Sintra. Lord Byron spent much of his youth here; and it’s still captivating even 200 years later. You’ll get the best view from the looming hilltop Pena Palace - an uninterrupted outlook over the thick forests, exotic gardens and the town’s winding streets below. This Moorish masterpiece is a collection of onion domes and keyhole gates in bright blues, pinks and yellows - and it’s a marvel to explore.
One of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon’s wide boulevards and squares are peppered with rich architecture and grand monuments. Armed with orientation tips, you might like to venture into the city to explore its best bits at your leisure.
In the old town, traditional trams clatter through the winding streets and shop fronts are decorated with intricate tiles. Be sure to stop by the 12th century church of Igreja de Sao Vince; Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, one of Europe’s leading fine arts museums; and UNESCO-protected Torre de Belém, one of the most famous monuments in Portugal. If you’re feeling peckish, we suggest a pasteis de nata - delicious Portuguese custard tarts best served with a sprinkling of cinnamon and icing sugar.
We transfer to the port where we embark Azamara Pursuit®, ahead of our sailing this afternoon.
The breathtaking scenery of Portugal’s southernmost region has long made the Algarve famous. And Portimão is the perfect example: golden sandy beaches skirting dramatic cliffs, the aroma of fresh sardines on the grill and an award-winning winery. What could be better? For beach-lovers, Praia de Roche is right in the centre of town. Or try Praia Grande, one of the region’s finest beaches complete with a 16th century castle. Elsewhere, Museum de Portico, housed in a 19th century fish cannery, offers archaeology and underwater finds.
Palm trees, aged buildings and a twist of backstreets give the ancient city of Cádiz a romantic allure - Cádiz’s speciality is mixing the old world with an upbeat holiday buzz. Huge stone walls dating back to the 1500s still stand today and the 18th century Cádiz Cathedral is a real highlight. Meanwhile, golden beaches beckon and in the rambling backstreets, you’ll find your feet tapping to the sound of flamenco music.
Overlooking the mouth of the Mediterranean from a height of 1,400 feet, you’ll spot the towering Rock of Gibraltar long before we dock. A blend of British, Spanish and Moorish cultures, you’ll spot reminders of home sporadically throughout the city, such as red post and phone boxes, M&S and classic fish-and-chip shops. Take the cable car to the top of the Rock (or walk it if you’re feeling energetic!), from where you can see Africa to the south and Spain to the north, as well as a bird’s-eye of the rest of Gibraltar. A little way up the Rock is St Michael’s Cave - a fascinating and beautiful system long believed to be bottomless. Watch out for Gibraltar’s infamous macaques, who often hang around this area looking for food.
Perched on Andalucia’s sun-drenched Mediterranean coast, Málaga boasts seemingly endless stretches of golden-sand beaches, traditional tapas restaurants and lively local flair. Dig a little deeper and you’ll discover a wealth of cultural, historical, artistic and architectural treasures, such as Catedral de Málaga, the statuesque and striking Alcazaba Fortress and Castillo de Gibralfaro. Don’t miss the Picasso Museum, which proudly displays the work of Málaga’s most famous ‘son’, Pablo Picasso.
There is never a dull day in the charming Spanish city of Valencia. Wander through the beautiful centre and gawp at the historic monuments; visit one (or two) of the many museums and art galleries, or simply do as the locals do and head to the beach to enjoy the sunshine. In the centre of the atmospheric old town, walk wide-eyed as you pass wonderful sites from the 13th and 14th centuries. We spend a night here to ensure you get the full experience of this vibrant city.
Spain’s second city is awash with heritage and its mood is infused with a vibrant Catalan spirit. There’s something new at the turn of every corner of the city: jewels of Catalan and contemporary architecture, relaxing parks and beaches, mouth-watering markets and treasures from its Roman and medieval past. The city is famous for an incredible array of UNESCO-listed buildings, including La Sagrada Familia - the city’s Gaudi-designed Roman Catholic church.
We disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. On arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
