Highclere Castle needs little introduction, known to so many as Downton Abbey from the hugely successful TV series and film. The castle only opens for a limited time throughout the year but, to celebrate the release of Downton Abbey The Movie available on Digital Download now and on DVD & Blu-ray™ 27th January we’re pleased to announce that Highclere Castle, the home of ‘Downton Abbey’, is opening its doors exclusively for our customers on Saturday 11th July 2020, featuring elements from the making of the 2019 film!
Home to the Carnarvon family since 1679, the current castle is one of England’s most beautiful Victorian castles, set amidst 1,000 acres of spectacular parkland. Epitomising the glamour of the Victorian and Edwardian periods, this stunning home has plenty to offer, from exploring the impressive Drawing and Dining Rooms to the Egyptian Exhibition in the castle’s cellars. Don’t miss your chance to join this exclusive short break, providing the perfect opportunity to walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters from Downton Abbey and to gain a behind the scenes insight into this world-famous phenomenon.
We’ll stay at a well-appointed 3 or 4-star hotel. The comfortable rooms are en suite and other facilities include a bar and restaurant.
Mobility Information: Your hotel will be confirmed approximately 3 weeks before departure, therefore we cannot guarantee that the hotel will have a lift and/or ground floor rooms and may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility. We will provide you with the hotel information as soon as it is known and should you have any queries on the facilities in relation to mobility, please contact us immediately.
Friday: From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to our hotel. Subject to our coach route, we may make a longer stop en-route prior to arrival at the hotel. After checking in at the hotel, we enjoy dinner and our overnight stay.
Saturday: After breakfast, we head to the world-famous Highclere Castle, residence of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and filming location for the much loved Downton Abbey television series and film. Many of the rooms and vistas will be familiar to viewers and fans – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars of the castle explores the achievements of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 while outside, the distinctive gardens and spectacular parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown are a delight to explore. The castle also has a gift shop, gin bar and tea room. Afterwards, we re-join the coach for our journey home.
You will have the option to book your own flights independently with the operator.
