From our base, we take a tour of Germany’s most stunning natural region, The Black Forest and its winter wonderland scenery. See the crystal clear waters of Lake Titisee and Lake Schluchsee, partake in a woodland stroll, then treat yourself to a local delicacy – Black Forest Gâteau anyone? Visit the historic old town of Freiburg, famous for its miniature canals and mighty Minster, and see the town of Treiburg, home to Germany’s highest waterfalls. Perhaps some retail therapy is what you’re after? Then explore the pretty Swiss towns of Schaffhausen and Stein-am-Rhein , or spend time relaxing in resort, taking in the stunning natural scenery. With included visits to Boppard and the spa town of Baden-Baden, you’ll return home from your holiday with magical memories.
You will stay for four nights at the 3-star Alemanennhof Hotel Engel in the Black Forest town of Rickenbach in the Hotzenwald Forest. All rooms are comfortably furnished with T.V. and some have a balcony. The hotel has a restaurant, sauna, steam bath and bowling alley. Relax in the bar with an aperitif or a nice cold beer.
Overnight stays in Belgium will be in city-style hotels.
Regional departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Belgium for an overnight stay.
Day 2 Boppard & The Rhine Valley
Today we head south to the quaint Rhineland town of Boppard also known as ‘the pearl of the Rhine’. Boppard has many historic buildings and an attractive riverside promenade which invites you for a relaxing stroll by the Rhine.
From Boppard we travel south along the banks of the Rhine to the picturesque town of St. Goar, home to the world’s largest cuckoo clock. We have a short stop here before continuing to our hotel in the Black Forest for a four-night stay.
Day 3 Free Time or Titisee & Schluchsee
Today we enjoy a full-day optional excursion around the southern Black Forest. Enjoy time in the picturesque resort of Titisee, famed for the lake of the same name and its crystal clear waters. Admire the beautiful scenery or sample the local delicacies such as Black Forest gâteau.
We continue to the larger and equally beautiful, yet lesser-known lake of Schluchsee. A haven for holidaymakers, Schluchsee offers pleasant woodland strolls and a bustling resort centre.
Day 4 Triberg & Freiburg
Our day begins with a scenic drive through the Black Forest region to the university town of Freiburg. Known for its historic old town and fine architecture, popular landmarks in the town include the ornate Freiburg Minster, with its 116 metre tall tower, and the old and new town halls. Freiburg is also known for the miniature canals which run through its streets. Known as ‘Bächle’ these waterways used to supply water to the town for industrial use, and it is said that those who step into the miniature canals are sure to visit Freiburg again.
We then travel to Triberg, home to Germany’s highest waterfalls, and to the pilgrimage church of ‘Maria in der Tanne’. Renowned for its cuckoo clock tradition, Triberg’s carvers, clockmakers and clock shops help to shape the distinctive character of this charming town.
Day 5 Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein
Today’s included excursion takes us across the border into Switzerland. Our first stop is the traffic free old town of Schaffhausen. Considered one of the prettiest towns in Switzerland, you will have free time to explore the narrow, medieval streets and admire the lavishly painted façades of the guild-houses.
We later continue to Stein am Rhein, home to the impressive Hohenhlingen Castle which overlooks the medieval town. There will be free time here for you to explore the historic alleyways and beautiful Rathausplatz (town hall square) before returning to the hotel.
Day 6 Baden-Baden
Today we bid farewell to the Black Forest and travel to the historic spa-town of Baden-Baden for an included visit. This beautiful city boasts a relaxed atmosphere and a sea of greenery in its parks and gardens.
We continue to Belgium where we stay overnight.
